Project #1:

SVC002

Fall 2015 (153)

Closed Traverse Measurement (6%)

PROJECT DUE:

2015 October 5 at 10:00am A3018

PROJECT NOT ACCEPTED AFTER 2015 OCTOBER 13 at 10:00am

LATE submissions less 10% per day, including weekends.

FIELD WORK penalties: LATE -5% per day; ABSENT -15% per day.
Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to measure and calculate the overall Linear Error of Closure,
Accuracy Ratio and Area of a Closed Traverse. The Project will be done in 3 parts: Angular
measurements, Distance measurements and Report Submission.

It is an INDIVIDUAL project and all the rules and policies of Seneca College will apply.
ALL NOTES MUST BE RECORDED IN FIELDBOOK ONLY
PART 1 (Angle Measurements)
NOTE:
EACH STUDENT must measure at least 1 angle and record original details in her/his notes.
Fieldbooks must be initialed in the field.

ANGLE Measurement:
Major Equipment required: Electronic Theodolite
Measure the interior angles of the assigned 4-sided Lot using an Electronic theodolite (0o 0 30
per angle). Using all angular data, calculate the sum of the angles and total angular misclosure
and adjust the error. Use 00O 02 00 as an overall angular error guideline.

Part2: DISTANCE Measurement:

1. Field procedure:
Each person must measure the distances from of at least 1 point of the Lot they are assigned
using a Total Station, and record her/his OWN DATA. The difference between the forward and
return distances should not be more than 0.020m

2. Calculate the Accuracy Ratio after measurements are complete

Next, calculate the overall misclosure and Accuracy ratio. If the data meet the 1:2500 minimum
then start step 3, calculating the adjusted values of the stations using the Compass Rule
Adjustment Method.
NOTE:
lnclude a Summary Table of all your final measured distances and angles in your fieldbook

Also, if you include any data copied from the person doing notes on a particular day your
fieldbook MUST CLEARLY STATE at the top of the pages

Part 3: Final Report Submission Requirements

Traverse Measurement and Area Calculation
(Required Accuracy Ratio 1:2500 )

TRAVERSE calculation data:

Start direction: Assume azimuth of line #1 to #2 as indicated:
For example Crew #6 / Lot #6
Start direction of traverse is:
Az = 351O (6 + # #) 00
(where # # refers to the SUM OF the last 2 digits in your student number).
Calculated Example: SIN 123-456-789 Az = 351O (6 + 17) 00 = 351O 23 00
