ORAL PRESENTATION 1st TERM

A Biography
Biography
You are going to prepare an oral presentation about
the story of someones life. You can choose a
writer, a musician, a politician, a scientist, a
discoverer, an inventor, a king or queen, etc.
There are three tasks to be done:
1. The written part (a text telling about the life of a person of your choice)
2. The oral part (remember you cannot read, so rehearse at home and come to class
and speak as naturally as possible)
3. The slide presentation (it can be a PowerPoint file or any other visual support)
Aspects to include in your oral presentation:
Youth (early life of your person): birth place and date. Home life and experiences. Siblings
and parents. Places where he/she lived. Important events in his/her early life. Schooling.
Interesting stories about his/her youth.
Adult Life: adventures and experiences. Lifestyle and personal habits. Personal family
information and jobs. End of life or what is his/her life like now.
Reasons for fame: admirable qualities or any unpleasant behaviours and/ or prejudices.
How would the course of history or the lives of people have been different if he/she had
not lived?

Language tip:

You are talking/writing about a persons past life so remember to use the

Past Simple.
If the person you choose is still alive, you will use the present simple when referring to the present
situation.
The hypothetical situation at the end of the speech should be expressed using the third conditional. If
he/she had(nt)+past participle.., would(nt) have+past participle

Timing tip:

Your oral presentation will last between 5 and 10 minutes. Remember to rehearse
at home in front of friends/classmates. Remember that at the end of your presentation there will
be some extra time in case the audience wants to ask any questions.

Aspects to include in your slide presentation:

Include a map to show where he/she was born and/or lived
Make a timeline including all the important dates in his/her life.
Choose pictures which go with the persons achievements.
If his/her life has been turned into a movie, show the poster of the film.
