Sunday Sermon

a daily scripture guide

Week of October 12 October 17

Dreaming God-Size Dreams - October 11

MONDAY: Numbers 11:18-23, 31-33 An Egypt mentality
REFLECTION: Sometimes we hold the view that while the past may have been
horrible, at least we knew what to expect. The future, while it has promise, is
unknown; therefore, we may opt to return to Egypt.
ACTION: What might keep you from going back to your Egypt? Write that down,
and post it as a reminder to look ahead.
TUESDAY: Ephesians 3:20-21 A blessing of abundance
REFLECTION: Keeping in mind the Numbers passage from Monday, this verse
speaks of God as one who blesses exceedingly and abundantly above all we ask.
While the Israelites asked for meat out of a scarcity mindset, God granted
their prayer/complaint with an immeasurable response.
ACTION: What would you ask God for, knowing God could do more than you
imagine? Ready...set...go! Ask for it now.
WEDNESDAY: Numbers 11:18-23, 31-33 You write it
REFLECTION: What insight have you gained from this scripture and Sundays sermon?
PRAYER: Lord, continually speak to me through the scripture, conversations,
and in my time with you.
THURSDAY: 1 John 4:7-21 God is love, no room for fear
REFLECTION: The author speaks that love and fear cannot occupy the same space.
When we are fearful, one question we might ask is, Where is Gods love in
this situation? The answer is always that Gods love is before, during and after
whatever you endeavor. Allow that love to propel and encourage you forward.
PRAYER: May your love leave no room for fear in me.

Scripture: Numbers 11:18-23, 31-33 (NRSV)

And say to the people: Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat
meat; for you have wailed in the hearing of the Lord, saying, If only we had
meat to eat! Surely it was better for us in Egypt. Therefore the Lord will give
you meat, and you shall eat. You shall eat not only one day, or two days, or five
days, or ten days, or twenty days, but for a whole monthuntil it comes out of
your nostrils and becomes loathsome to youbecause you have rejected the Lord
who is among you, and have wailed before him, saying, Why did we ever leave
Egypt? But Moses said, The people I am with number six hundred thousand on
foot; and you say, I will give them meat, that they may eat for a whole month!
Are there enough flocks and herds to slaughter for them? Are there enough fish in
the sea to catch for them? The Lord said to Moses, Is the Lords power limited?
Now you shall see whether my word will come true for you or not.
Then a wind went out from the Lord, and it brought quails from the sea and let
them fall beside the camp, about a days journey on this side and a days journey
on the other side, all around the camp, about two cubits deep on the ground.
So the people worked all that day and night and all the next day, gathering the
quails; the least anyone gathered was ten homers; and they spread them out
for themselves all around the camp. But while the meat was still between their
teeth, before it was consumed, the anger of the Lord was kindled against the
people, and the Lord struck the people with a very great plague.

My Notes:

FRIDAY: 1 John 4:7-21 Fear has to do with punishment

REFLECTION: Looking at what will go wrong increases our fear. We fear that
our courage will incite punishment from others. It may sound like, Who do you
think you are? or, Youre not _______ enough, etc. This negativity comes
from others, but it can also come from ourselves.
PRAYER: In you Lord, I am more than enough!
SATURDAY: 1 John 4:7-21 Perfect love, practice love
REFLECTION: God is love. God is perfect. God is perfect love. God perfects
Gods love in us as we love God and others. Love is perfected through practice.
If we desire this love we must release fear of being hurt and practice loving.
PRAYER: Perfect your Love in me, Lord, so that I may be perfected in my love
to you and others. Practice makes perfect, I know, and I will risk it anyway!
