Daffodils and Memories

By Ali Van Zee

You came across my mind today

As you do in every way.

And every moment,

Awake or sleeping

Is filled with memories of you

I’m keeping.

Your life cut short by another’s shame,

They refuse to share the blame.

My anger rising,

I weep, I mourn

And rail against

All those I scorn!

But that’s not what you want for me,

Hardening my heart this easily.

So to warm my soul

Against these dreadful chills,

Today I bought

Some daffodils.

They’re on the table by the bed;

To see them I just turn my head.

So bright and happy,

They’re in the perfect place.

For in every petal

I see your face!
