Introduction

MetJournal is a PC-Software, that was developed especially for the capturing

saving and displaying of measuring values gathered from meteorological
sensors. Besides the new generation of meteorological sensors with MeteoBusport produced by Meteolabor AG, sensors from other manufacturers are also
being supported.
The software package MetJournal consists of three independent components.
MetJournal Station captures the data and saves them in a SQL database. For the
user, this occurs mostly invisible in the background.
With the program MetJournal data is being read out of the database and
displayed graphically or in a table.
The components MetJournal Station, Database and MetJournal can be installed
on the same as well as on separate computers. The software is multi-user
capable, which means that various users can display and analyze the same data
simultaneously.

Description of Function

MetJournal Klimet A30

With the software component MetJournal Klimet A30 the measuring values of
the Klimet A30 saved in the database will be displayed graphically or tabular.
When starting MetJournal Klimet A30, the measuring values are being read out
of the database and displayed graphically in the two diagrams of the main
window.

Introduction 1

Main window
In the main window the most important measuring values are being recorded in
two diagrams. The upper diagram shows temperatures and CO2-concentrations
in function of time, the lower diagram shows the air pressure and the calculated
values of air density.
The time scale is being kept along with system time, so that always the newest
measuring values are visible in the diagrams.
On the right side of the main window the most recent measuring values are being
displayed as numerical values. On the right hand bottom the system time is being
displayed.

Navigation
By means of the navigation keys the diagrams can be enlarged, minimized and
moved. Approximately 3 minutes after the last operation of a navigation key the
diagrams will be changed back to factory settings.

Control elements
Selection of sensors (in the factory
setting only one sensor is
available).
Selection of data type to be
displayed. If no selection is made
by checking the respective box, all
measuring values will be
displayed.
Period of time, for which the
measuring values are to be
displayed. If the checkbox date /
time is not marked, all data will be
displayed.

measuring values (first value,
previous value, next value, last
value).
Update table (refresh). New
measuring values will be
displayed.
Export current table. The displayed
table will be exported as a commaseparated ASCII-file (Excel
compatible).
Close window.

Description of Function 5

Special Table
The window Special Table allows the display of measuring values with the
same time value side by side.

It is also possible to place a SQL-interrogation directly in the database and have

the results displayed in the table. However, for this it is necessary to have
knowledge about the interrogation language SQL and the respective data model.

6 Description of Function

MetJournal Klimet A30-MT User's Manual

The list of the measuring values to be displayed or the SQL-command have to be

entered into the memo field.

To revise the list, it is best to use the designated control elements.

Selection of the sensor and the
measuring value, to be added to the list.
Add selected measuring value to the
list.
Load standard list (however therefore a
standard list had to be saved
previously).
Save current list as standard list.
Delete memo field (list).

Additional control elements

Time period for which the table
should be designed (not effective
for SQL-command).

Navigation within the table of

measuring values (first value,
previous value, next value, last
value).
Export list and calculate the
respective table.

Carry out SQL-command.

Export current table. The

displayed table will be exported as
comma-separated ASCII-file
(Excel compatible).

Properties
Program settings can be carried out in the window Properties. The most
important settings are briefly explained below. It is generally necessary to be
careful when changing settings. A false configuration can easily cause the
system not to function correctly anymore. Only change settings when you are
sure what consequences these changes can bring with them.
The most important settings are briefly explained below.

Register General

Scale axes automatically:

The activated axes are set back to

standard settings automatically. The
time axis will be set according to
system time.

Clock:

The clock can show alternatively local

time, UTC (world time) or UTC with an
offset (for example winter time).

Register Series 1 and Series 2

In this register you can chose which measuring parameters will be displayed.
When the checkbox has been marked the respective parameter will be displayed
as long as corresponding measuring values are present in the database.
ATTENTION
The settings for Sensor Id and Data Type Id may only be changed in
special cases. Wrong settings can result in the display of wrong measuring
values!
Sensor Id:

The Id of the sensor (is always 1 in the

standard configuration)

Data Type Id:

The Id of the data type that marks the

respective parameter

Register Data File

Existing Mettler Toledo sensors require especially formatted ASCII-files for
communication. MetJournal Klimet A30 can generate such ASCII-files
automatically.

Automatically generates a ASCII-file

for the communication with Mettler
Toledo sensors, when the checkbox has
been activated.
Select a path for the automatically
generated file here.
The header of the ASCII-file can be
changed here. Only the first four lines
will be used as header.

MetJournal Station (Service)

As a service, under Windows NT, 2000 and XP the component MetJournal
Station will normally be installed. In this configuration Met Journal Station
(Service) will start automatically after system start.
On Windows 95/98/ME systems, the component MetJournal Station should be
entered into the auto start group.
When MetJournal Station (Service) runs, a corresponding symbol (Tray Icon)
will be shown in the start menu.

Normally MetJournal Station (Service) runs discretely in the background and

requires no input from the user. For special tasks the user can interfere in the
communication between MetJournal and the sensor. MetJournal Station
(Service) for example is also responsible for the configuration of the interface.
When you click the symbol with the right mouse key, the following popup menu
appears:

Moreover the terminal window or the configuration window can be opened.
