B.Purpose
The purpose of the task is to summarize the characteristic of porous iron prepared by
powder metallurgy. The experimental result was analsed using Gibson-Ashby model and
the studied was focus on the influences of intial powder size and compacting pressure on
sample microstructure,contimination and mechanical characteristic.
C.Method
The material was blend and mixed with an iron ammonia bicarbonate volume ratio of
100: 0, 80:20.

D. Result
a)Microstructure and Porosity
The porosity was clearly incresed with increased of amount of added spacer.Basically
porosity was decreased when a higher compacting pressure was used and that the sample
generally explained by the incresed of interparticle bridging and friction, which is caused
by decreasing particle size. The porosity decreased when a higher compacting pressure
pressure was used and the sample was prepared using the fine iron powder.
The microstructure was prepared without spacer addition contain the micropores. The shape
was completed different from the spacer particle. Therefore, the particle were able tightly
enclosed the spacer particle and obtained macropores
b.)Mechanical Properties
The palstic decomposition occurs during the test of bulk sample. The sample show that an
increased in spacer amount in the initial mixture improved mechanical behaviour. The
behaviour was observed for coased and fine intial powder. The higher compacting pressure
led to lower porosity. The different of oxide layer on the surface strongly improve resistance
fracture.
E.Conclusion
The influence of compacting pressure and initial iron powder on microstructural and
mechanical characteristic was develop micropores and macropores which formed by spacer
initial mixture increased the total porosity but decreased micropores.Increase in compacting
pressure was led to decreased microporosity

B.Purpose
The purpose of the task is to summarize the influence of copper and aluminium on
mechanical behaviour of pure magnesium.Microstucture was reveal by the presence of
MgAl and MgCu intermetallic phase in synthesized alloys.
C.Method
The material powder were combine with Mg-Cu and alloys to form as powder. The
process continue with compacting, and sintering under Ar gas and followed by secondary
process which is hot extrusion.

a)Microstructure and Porosity
The evaluation were tested using X-ray diffusion and carry out using X-ray diffractometer.
The test was perform in various direction include layer by layer of the part. The investigation
of metallic phase was discover when sintering process. The composition was react with Al to
form MgAl intermetallic phase.Several dislocation as well as present in the alloy with is due to
thermal expansion between matrix and intermetallic phase.
b.)Mechanical Properties
The room temperature hadness, tensile, and compresion testing result of Mg,Cu and Al alloys
can be observed that both material was incresing with Aluminium content. When Al content
increase tensile failure strain decrease which may be attributed to the presence of brittle
MgAl phase.
E.Conclusion
The influence of Mg-Cu -Alloy were succesfully synthesized by Powder Metallurgy process.
The uniform distribution were formed in Mg matrix.Intermetallic phased of MgCu and Mg Al
was traced in alloy matrix. Besides that micron size Cu-Al particle can significantly improve
on tensile and compression properties. Finally the increased of strenght alloy may be
attributed to presence of hard metallic phase which may resist againt rupture.
