Production
The production that I am creating is an opening sequence of a
horror genre film. It is about a drug dealer who goes to his
usual location to shoot up with some heroin like he usually
does. He likes this location as it is deserted. However, this
will be the last time he will ever do it, as this time he
overdoses. However, whilst he is overdosing he starts to see
visions that have spawned form the darkest corners of his
mind, which involves him seeing a terrifyingly scary person
which is the other him (his dark, evil side). This other
person encourages him to cut out his tongue, through the use
of persuasive dialogue and the fact that he never stops
talking until he does it. In the end, he does end up cutting
out his own tongue as a result of his evil vision, thus
resulting in his death. The screen cuts to black.
Target Audience
The target audience that I have decided to aim/go for is in
the age range of 15-30, as older audiences may find it too
weird or disturbing, as well as viewers under 15. I think
people aged between 15-30 will mostly like get a kick out of
it and enjoy my production as people in that genre, according
to research, like scary horror films. Gender wise, my project
will be aimed towards everyone, whether a girl or a boy, as I
feel aiming it towards one sex will devalue the entire
project, plus I will not be able to get constructive criticism
from the girl audience, who might have good ideas I can use.
Plus, it is good for couples who like horror films and who
like scaring each other so it branches out my demographic even
more.
Duration
The duration of our film is two minutes as our task was to
produce an opening sequence of a horror film. As it is only
two minutes we need to keep the sequence gripping to make sure
the audience continue to watch the rest of the film.
Context
The final production (my entire project), including the
paperwork will be showcased and presented in my media studies
classroom, in front my my teacher, Mr. Assegai. The lights
will be turned off to maximize and intensify the horror that
is being presented on screen, which I think will help immerse
people into the opening sequence as well. To also maximize my

production quality, I will increase the sound so that when the

music plays the audience will be more tense and have an on
the edge of your seat impact. Then after I have shown the
opening sequence I will upload it to YouTube for the public to
see, plus my teacher can re-watch it if he wants to.
Character breakdown
The heroin addict (Ewan): Harry Martin, aged 16, white, male.
This is the main protagonist and the whole production is based
around him. He is a violent, weird and unusual person who has
become like this due to his heroin habits. He has psychopathic
tendencies, but he mainly suffers from schizophrenia, as he
talks to a person who doesnt exist (the evil him).
Harrys evil side (Nawe): Harry Martin, aged 16, white male.
This is the supporting character in the production and he is
stereotype of pure evil. He is dark, twisted, scarred and
demented. He likes to see Harry in pain, which he ends up
causing due to Harry unstable mind.
Harrys multiple hallucinations: The other hallucinations,
except for his main one (Nawe) will be played by other people,
such as my friends and possible family members. The big cast
will really add a sense of insanity to the production, as it
implies that Harrys brain is completely messed up.
Visual elements:
Lighting: The lighting in my sequence will be fairly low to
highlight the genre to the audience and show the mysterious
nature of the story. However, when filming, I need to make
sure the lighting is high enough to see the characters
clearly. This can be easily set up before filming as my
opening sequence is set in an alley way; however, if needed, I
may be able to manipulate the lighting when editing.
Camerawork: I am planning to use a lot of cuts in my sequence
to establish and show that the character is losing his mind.
Along with this I will be using lengthened out panning shots
to create suspense and a sense of mystery, which nicely
juxtaposes with the quick editing and multiple angles in the
sequence.
Editing: To edit my footage, I will either use Adobe Premiere
which I prefer, or Final Cut Pro X, as it more professional,
even though it may be harder to use.
Media Language
Media language will be used effectively to portray a variety

of different and various thoughts and feelings for the

audience to experience and understand. The costumes of the
character will be very stereotypical of that of a drug taker,
so that first, the audience can easily identify what type of
person is, and second so that it adds another layer of horror
to the film, as he is grotesque to looks at. His red,
bloodshot eyes and dirty, ripped clothes are going to give the
audience an uneasy feel throughout the project as they are
going to have to go through the journey with him. The language
used will also be very dark and scary, it might include some
swearing to add tension and fear to the sequence, but if I
cant, I will make sure that the dialogue is very creepy and
unnerving. I think the repetition of the dialogue, coming from
his vision, will also add another layer to it as it will add
tension and a weird vibe to it, which will hopefully make
audiences shake in fear.
Institutions
The name of my production company is called A Hard Days
Night and beside this, is the logo that will appear on the
films poster, whenever the film is shown
around to the public. I got the idea from
Quentin Tarantino, who called his
production company after one of his
favourite films, which I done with my
production company. (A hard days night
is a film about the day in the life of
the Beatles).
To make sure that people who are at work can watch it (our
socio-economic group isC1, C2, D and E) it will be aired in
the evening, to make sure that they will be home from work
so it is prime time when people will be watching the
television. We decided not to do a higher socio-economic class
as if the person has a more important job then they probably
wouldnt have time to watch television in the evening as they
would either be completing work or working from home.
Representation
I am going to represent the main character as a very
stereotypical drug taker so that the audience can gain a clear
understanding of who he is and so that we feel more sympathy
towards him, because at the end of the day he cannot control
his habit.
Genre
The setting that I am using is quite different to the usual
setting of a standard horror film. In my production it will be

during the middle of the evening when you would least expect
an event like that occur, which adds a sense of surrealism to
it and weirdness to it, which is what I want.
