Visa Application:

Students can visit on a Student Visitor visa or a Tier 4 visa. The latter enables
students to stay for longer and work if they wish to. They can also extend a Tier 4
visa if necessary. Student Visitor visas enable students to visit for no more than 6
months, cannot be extended and allow students to study only.
Use Do you need a visa? Guide on the UK Border Agency website to see if you need
a visa. If you need a visa you should follow the steps outlined below. You are
reminded not to make your travel arrangements until you have your visa.
For more information, please refer to their website:

Health Insurance:

If you are on a short course (less than six months) you are not entitled to free health
care under the National Health Service other than emergency treatment in a hospital
casualty department. It is important, therefore, to take out comprehensive medical
insurance before you leave your home country. Some countries have a reciprocal
health agreement with the UK; please check with your British Embassy/High
Commission. Private medical insurance is necessary if you are coming to the UK for
less than six months. You must ensure you have adequate insurance cover as health
care in the UK can be very expensive. Details of eligibility for NHS care can be found
at the Department of Health website.

Housing Options:

University accommodation
The University has a very wide range of good-quality accommodation, from catered
halls of residence for undergraduate students (where food is provided) to self-catered
accommodation for undergraduates and postgraduates. All accommodation is within
easy walking distance of the city centre and campus facilities.
The University guarantees a place in University accommodation to all
unaccompanied international students for the first year of their studies provided (a)
they commence their studies in October, (b) the University has received a formal
accommodation application form by 31st July, and (c) the accommodation deposit
has also been received.
Please note that the University cannot guarantee accommodation to those students
who apply after 31st July or to students who commence their studies after the start of
the Academic Year. However, we do undertake to assist such students in every way
we can.
Full details of University of Exeter accommodation and on-line booking are available
on the Accommodation Office website.
Private rental accommodation
A number of students, especially those with families, prefer to live in private rental
accommodation close to the University. Please note that this can take time to
arrange and it may be difficult find a suitable place directly from overseas. Landlords
often require references and a substantial deposit.
Further information is available on the Accommodation Office private sector
accommodation page. The Guild Advice Unit in Devonshire House offers a private
accommodation contract-checking service which we strongly encourage anyone
moving into private accommodation to take advantage of before signing a contract.
Please note that the University will not be involved in the vetting of private
accommodation and contracts are signed at the students own risk.

Orientation:

Our main orientation programme for new students who will start their studies in
October is called Welcome Week.
Welcome Week will be held immediately before term starts. The International
Students' programme of events during the week helps to smooth your transition to
University life in the UK. The events introduce the University and provide practical
information about life in England. You will be able to visit the city and learn
something of its history, register with the health center, open a bank account, ask lots
of questions and make many new friends. There are opportunities for you to meet
your professors, your classmates and there are also lots of social activities for you to
attend with the rest of the student population! There is a programme for all new
students for you to join. It is a busy week and it is highly recommended for all new
students.
During your first few days you will need to collect your Uni Card, activate your IT
account and complete online registration.

Arrival Information:

The University offers a Meet and Greet Service from Heathrow Airport in
September prior to the Orientation Programme, also known as Welcome Week.

for updated cost):

http://www.exeter.ac.uk/international/students/studyabroad/livingcosts/
It is estimated that a single student living in Exeter or Cornwall will need
approximately 650-700 a month to meet basic living expenses such as
accommodation costs, food, books and equipment and other necessities. This figure
is given as a guide only. The amount you actually spend will depend a lot upon your
personal lifestyle. Do not forget to include the cost for the type of accommodation
you have decided upon.
To work out whether youve budgeted enough is to visit the International Student
