mm. The maximum velocity is 1.5 m/s. Find the mean velocity
and the radius at which this occurs. Also calculate the velocity at
4 cm from the wall of pipe?

A Horizontal pipe line 40 m long is connected to a water tank at

one end and discharges freely into the atmosphere at the other
end. For the first 25 m of its length from the tank, the pipe is
150 mm diameter and its diameter is suddenly enlarged to 300
mm. The height of water level in the tank is 8 m above the centre
of the pipe. Considering all losses of which occur, determine the
rate of flow. Take f = 0.01 for both sections of the pipe? and
draw the Total energy line & Hydraulic gradient line for this
problem with corresponding values?
(OR)
A pipe of diameter 0.4m and of length 2000 m is connected to a
reservoir at one end. The other end of pipe is connected to a
junction from which two pipes of lengths 1000m and diameter
300mm run in parallel. These parallel pipes are connected to
another reservoir which is having a level of water 10m below the
water level of the above reservoir. Determine the total discharge
if f = 0.015.Neglect minor losses.

(b) (i) The characteristics of the spillway are to be studied by means of
a geometrically similar model constructed to the scale ratio of
1:10. (i) If the maximum rate of flow in the prototype is 28.3
m3/s what will be corresponding flow in the model? (ii) If the
measured velocity in the model at appoint on the spill way is 2.4
m/s, what will be the corresponding velocity in prototype? (iii) If
the hydraulic jump at the foot of the model is 50 mm high what
will be the height of jump in prototype? (iv) If the energy
dissipated per second in the model is 3.5 Nm, what energy is
dissipated per second in the prototype?
(ii) A 1:40 model of an ocean tanker is dragged through fresh water
at 2m/s with a total measured drag of 12N. The skin drag co
efficient f for model and prototype are 0.03 & 0.002 respectively
in the equation Rf = f.A.V2.The wetted surface area of the model
