Letter of Recommendation
I would like to take this opportunity to highly recommend Sorina Costinas, Ph.D., for the
position of full professor at the Power Engineering Faculty of the University Politehnica of
Bucharest. As an academic person in Electrical & Computer Engineering, it is my view
that Sorina Costinas is fully qualified to be promoted to the position of professor.
My first meeting Dr. Costinas was the 16th International Conference On Harmonics And
Quality Of Power, held in may 2014 at "Politehnica' University ofBucharest. Since 2014, as
our research areas are overlapped to a certain extent, we started our frequent
discussions on various subjects or topics at conferences, seminars, via e'mail, i.e.,
engineering education, power supply quality; new approach in the design, operation &
maintenance of substations; RES (wind and PV), substations, energy and environment,
etc.
The importance and impact of the scrintific results obtained by Mrs Sorina Costinas is also
emphasized in 15 papers which have been highlighted in conferences organized by the
IEEE (Powertech, IEEEIC, ICQHP, OPTIM, ATEE, ISFEE, ACEMP-OPTIM-Electromotion) and
can be viewed on IEEExplore. Based on her academic career accomplishments, she has
been elevated in July 2015 as IEEE senior member.
Dr. Costinas has a strong grasp of the theoretic basis and the aplicability in electrical
equipments. Developing her own research skills and the ability to choose appropriate
technical solutions can be tested through electrical engineering patents.. The patent
application "Operative Control Method for Symmetrical Components of the Three-phases
Power Systems" has been rewarded in a competition with other 300 patent applications
with the Gold Medal at International Exhibition of Research, Innovation and Inventions
PRO INVENT 2015.
Her relevant scientific contribution comprises 16 books, out of which, 4 of them she is
unique author. One of the most representative book is Quality Assurance for Power
Supply System (2012). In 8 chapters and 190 pages, her contribution is a holistic
approach of power supply quality considering technical and commercial aspects for an
optimal power supply solution. The book is setting the norms of electric power quality, in
correlation with the costs involved by impact of non-quality of power supply for
businesses. Solutions for pay-back of the quality cost are identified both for distribution
companies and for final power users.
Through them, I always find that she is really a capable scientist having an international
sense.
It is my honor and privilege to recommend Sorina Costinas, Ph.D. for the full professor
