Footnotes:
ichard Read of The Car Connection drives us to the brink with this piece explaining..."We've spilled a lot of ink discussing the most congested cities for
drivers. But what about the most dangerous states for auto-related deaths?
Michael Sivak and Brandon Schoettle of the University of Michigan Transportation
Research Institute asked themselves the same question -- and unlike us, they decided
to find an answer.
To do that, they looked at traffic fatality stats from the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration for calendar year 2013 (the most recent year available). And just
to make things interesting, Sivak and Schoettle did a little fancy math to see how highway fatalities compared to deaths as a whole.
Their findings were eye-opening.

GENTLE GIANTS
#1 Halloween Costume in
Florida for Halloween:
'm a guy, she's single...honestly very attractive a little younger than me... she
moved in right across the street and I
can see her place from my kitchen window.
I watched as she got home from work
this evening. I was surprised when she
walked across the street, up my driveway
and knocked on the door.
I opened the door, she looked at me and
said, "I just got home and I have this strong
urge to go have a good time, get drunk and
get you knowtonight. Are you doing anything tonight?"
I replied, "Nope, I'm free!" "Great," she
said. "Can you baby-sit my dog?"

aid-in-dying is currently in
dispute in New Mexico's
courts.
The California bill was inspired by Brittany Maynard,
the 29-year-old San Francisco
Bay Area resident who gained
national attention for her decision to move to Oregon to
take advantage of the state's
longstanding aid-in-dying
law. Maynard had been diagnosed with terminal brain
cancer, but as a California
resident, could not pursue
end-of-life options at home.
"I am heartbroken that I had
to leave behind my home, my
community and my friends in
California. But I am dying
and I refuse to lose my dignity. I refuse to subject myself and my family to
purposeless, prolonged pain
and suffering at the hands of
an incurable disease," Maynard said in a message to legislators recorded several
weeks before her death. "No
one should have to leave their
home and community for
peace of mind, to escape suffering and to plan for a gentle
death."

media reporting it
like this: "We have no idea what
motivates these people. Could be a lack of good
jobs. Could be a fascination with white sheets.
It's a mystery."
We have a serious situation with millions of
people invading our country from Mexico
with absolutely no respect for our laws. Yet we
are paralyzed as a country from dealing with
the issue of how to stop this from happening
(such as building a fence) because we are
afraid of being called anti-Hispanic. This is
nuts. When ISIS, or a group like that, crosses
our porous border and sets off a bomb in
downtown Dallas or Houston that kills thousands of people, watch how fast our government can build a wall.
We have to be honest about the world as it is
instead of the world as we would like it to be.
Donald Trump may be abrasive with the way
he says things sometimes (he would not be the
first New Yorker to do this), but his candor,
bluntness and disdain for political correctness
is attracting a lot of supporters right now.

The charge carries a possible maximum sentence of life in prison if Muller is convicted.
A cell phone Muller allegedly left behind
during an attempted home invasion robbery in
Dublin on June 5 led authorities to evidence allegedly linking him to the kidnapping.
Last month, Muller pleaded no
contest and was convicted in
Alameda County Superior Court
on charges of attempted robbery,
burglary and assault with a deadly
weapon in the Dublin case.
Vallejo police initially said in
March that they believed
Huskins and Quinns account
of the kidnapping was a hoax
and that the couple had led police on a wild goose chase.
After Muller was charged in
the federal criminal complaint,
Police Chief Andrew Bidou
sent the couple a letter of apology in July. Wagner said in a statement
today, The bizarre circumstances of the
events in Vallejo in March complicated the
investigation of this matter. But the Vallejo
Police Department, the FBI, and our law enforcement allies in Alameda County have
done excellent work in recent months to
bring this investigation to a conclusion, the
U.S. attorney said.
Muller graduated from Harvard Law School
and worked for a time as an immigration attorney. He was disbarred as a California lawyer
earlier this year." BIZARRE...

Sports
mind games from physical activities when deciding who to recognize. However,
that view ignores the reality that virtually every sport includes a mental aspect or
mind games. Anyone who has ever played a sport knows firsthand that the mental aspects are important, sometimes more important, than physical exertion.
Whether strategizing your next shot in golf, outthinking your defender in basketball or psyching out an opponent in tennis, the mind has a direct impact on ones
success.
Should the fact that bridge emphasizes the mind more than the rest of the body
preclude it from being defined as a sport? Isn't the brain part of the body, just another muscle? If so, then why can't it be argued that mind games involve muscle
power, i.e., physical exertion?
There is more than nomenclature and pride at stake in the outcome of the bridge
lawsuit. In England, as is true in many other countries, sports are eligible for government funding and receive a number of tax benefits that aren't available to recreational activities. In fact, the lawsuit stems from the denial of the English Bridge
Unions request for state funding. But if the court determines that bridge is a sport,
will chess, checkers, scrabble, solitaire, fantasy sports, and tiddlywinks, among
other activities, be lining up at the public trough?
We may already have passed that divide. The International Olympic Committee
allows a number of sports to participate in quadrennial competition, yet recognizes
additional activities as sports although they are not allowed to participate in the
Games. Included in the latter category isbridge.
Regardless of how the High Court rules as a matter of law the decision won't
put to rest the debate over what constitutes a sport. It will only determine who
gets a slice of the government pie.

OMG:
Chewing Gum
Good
Amy Shira Teitel -TestTube
"It's long been told that chewing
gum is great for your teeth, but is
it? Could it be a replacement to
flossing?
Chewing gum's got a bad
rep, and perhaps deservedly so: It's a vulgar
habit of the ill-mannered, it rots your
teeth, and there's
nothing more disthan
gusting
reaching under a
desk
and
touching a
petrified
blob of
chewedup gum.
Fed up with
wads of gum being
discarded everywhere and
the costs associated with its removal, the Prime Minister of Singapore banned chewing gum in his
country in 1992 (although you can
chew it if you have a prescription
from your doctor).
A study just released in the journal
PLoS ONE, however, shows that
chewing gum may be as beneficial to
oral hygiene as flossing. Researchers
had five subjects chew gum for different lengths of time. When they
were done, they analyzed the bacteria in the gum. They counted up to
100 million bacteria per
piece--which is more or
less the same
amount
of
bacteria
r e moved
from a
good flossing!
What say
you about gum?
Does this change
how you feel about
it? Do you always
have a piece in your
mouth or do you steer
clear of the stuff? Would
you rather floss after every
meal, or just pop a piece of
gum in your mouth? For those
out there who do chew gum,
what do you do with it when you're
done chewing it?
"Chewing gum has already been
shown to boost cognitive function
and suppress appetite. Now scientists
have provided another reason to do
it."

found that only 56 percent of blacks
graduate from high school. The average black man has little to hope for in a
world where seemingly all other races
appear to have much more.
It did not used to be this way. According to black economist, Walter
Williams, prior to the progressive socialist policies of the last 50 years,
black unemployment was lower and
blacks were more active in the labor
market than they are today. In 1910,
for example, 71 percent of blacks over
nine years of age were employed, compared to 51 percent for whites. This
trend stayed strong through the 1960s,
black male labor force participation in
every age group was equal to or greater
than that of whites, he says. Although
black schools, prior to the 1960s, were
characteristically modest in funding and
supplies, they often produced student

1 cup Chopped Almonds
cup Crunchy Peanut Butter
cup Turbinado Sugar or
Brown Sugar
cup Blue Agave Sugar
cup Honey
1 stick Butter
1 tsp Cinnamon

Once toasted, place in an extra large

Let cool and then cut into bars.
It's easy to see why the dark rum-based Daiquiri is a classic. The perfectly balanced
combination of sweet, sour and spirit is refreshing and tangy, but also quite simple to
make at home. Try making the recipe below and add this fool-proof drink to your bartending arsenal.

Further, consider student debt. President
Obama and the CFPB are increasingly concerned about the growing burden of student
debt, which has exploded under the president.
Student debt now stands at $1.2 trillion -- over
triple what it was a decade ago.
The problem started when Obama decided the
federal government could do a better
job of handling student loans than
the private sector. Since Obama
took the guaranteed student loan
business away from private sector banks and put the federal
government in charge, students
have piled up more student debt
than ever.
Now the CFPB wants to
bring its regulatory overreach to
credit unions, payday lending
and other financial institutions.
But clearly, the entity most in
need of regulation right now is the
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Congress members -- and the
presidential candidates -- need to explain
how they will regain control over this out-ofcontrol agency. In short, who will protect us
from this agency created to protect us?
By Merrill Matthews
naccountable government will be one of
President Obama's most regrettable
legacies. And the number one candidate
for the model of unaccountable government?
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau,
which just passed its fifth anniversary.
Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling calls it "the single
most unaccountable agency in the history of
America." Indeed, Senator Ted Cruz and Rep.
John Ratcliffe have introduced the Repeal CFPB
Act to abolish the agency and send its regulatory
functions back to the agencies that originally
handled them.
Democrats created the CFPB as part of DoddFrank; no House Republicans voted for the legislation, and only three moderate Senate
Republicans did.
And yet Congress can't cut its funding, fire its
people or challenge it in court -- at least not easily. CFPB funding is controlled by the Federal
Reserve Bank, yet another unaccountable organization. Maybe CFPB really stands for Congress's Formula for Protecting Bureaucracies.
It's not doing much to help government overspending either. The size of the agency and its
budget have exploded since passage with no end
in sight. Originally, the CFPB budget was $123
million. By 2016 it could be as high as $632
million -- a 500 percent increase in five years.
And it's using that taxpayer money for mischief.
The CFPB is a regulatory monster, attacking
anything that manages money: credit unions,
