A Note from the Pastor

This weekend Bridget and I had the opportunity to go on a
date without our children. Being the romantic that I am, I
suggested that we go to Jacks and Wal-Mart, but Bridget
had other plans. We went to another restaurant and a
movie.
The movie selection was very limited this weekend, so we
saw a movie called, The Intern. I cannot wholeheartedly
recommend this movie because, in its typical fashion,
Hollywood had to add some unnecessary, crude language.
However, the message of the movie was a powerful one
that possibly has a religious application.
The tagline of The Intern is, Experience never gets old.
Robert De Niro plays a retired man who takes a job as an
intern at an internet start-up working for a young,
unconventional CEO. Slowly, De Niro transitions from an
intern to a mentor to reluctant young executive and
impacts several others in the company.
I have wondered this weekend if one of the greatest
resources that we have here at PRBC is the amount of
life-experience that we have in our more senior members.
What would the impact be if our senior Christians were
willing to personally mentor one willing, young Christian?
What if we tore down the generational walls that separate
us and began to complement one another rather than
compete with one another? I cannot help but think that
we would all be better? Imagine, for example, a retired
nurse committing to pray for, befriend, invest in and
develop a relationship with a young nurse or nursing
student. The benefits for both could be amazing.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this. I do not know

of a church that has a ministry like this, but it is intriguing.
What would the advantages/ disadvantages be? Would
you be willing to be a part of a ministry like this? Would
you be willing to be on a team to develop this type of
ministry?
I look forward to hearing from you. I also look forward to
seeing you this Sunday. Great things are happening at
PRBC.
