MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR

Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister and social activist, who led the
Civil Rights Movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death
by assassination in 1968. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia.
King, both a Baptist minister and civil-rights activist, had a seismic impact on
race relations in the United States, beginning in the mid-1950s. Among many
efforts, King headed the SCLC. Through his activism, he played a pivotal role
in ending the legal segregation of African-American citizens in the South and
other areas of the nation, as well as the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. King received the Nobel Peace Prize in
1964, among several other honors. King was assassinated in April 1968, and
continues to be remembered as one of the most lauded African-American
leaders in history, often referenced by his 1963 speech, "I Have a Dream."

MAHATMA GANDHI
Mahatma Gandhi was the primary leader of Indias independence movement
and also the architect of a form of non-violent civil disobedience that would
influence the world. He was an international symbol for human rights whose
personal dedication to nonviolent resistance inspired generations. Born on
October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, India, Mahatma Gandhi studied law and
advocated for the civil rights of Indians, both at home under British rule and in
South Africa. Gandhi became a leader of Indias independence movement,
organizing boycotts against British institutions in peaceful forms of civil
disobedience. He was killed by a fanatic in 1948.

MOTHER TERESA
Mother Teresa was the founder of the Order of the Missionaries of Charity, a
Roman Catholic congregation of women dedicated to helping the poor. She was
known as one of the great humanitarians of the 20th century. Baptized on
August 27, 1910, in Skopje, Macedonia, Mother Teresa taught in India for 17
years before she experienced her 1946 "call within a call" to devote herself to
caring for the sick and poor. Her order established a hospice; centers for the
blind, aged, and disabled; and a leper colony. In 1979 she received the Nobel
Peace Prize for her humanitarian work. She died in September 1997 and was
beatified in October 2003.

BILL GATES
Entrepreneur Bill Gates founded the world's largest software business,
Microsoft, with Paul Allen, and subsequently became one of the richest men in
the world. Born on October 28, 1955, in Seattle, Washington, famed
entrepreneur Bill Gates began to show an interest in computer programming
at age 13. Through technological innovation, keen business strategy and
aggressive business tactics, he and partner Paul Allen built the world's largest
software business, Microsoft. In the process, Gates became one of the richest
men in the world. In February 2014, Gates announced that he was stepping
down as Microsoft's chairman.
