Wall tax assessor put on

leave; contract reviewed
Officials taking a look at work of company hired to conduct revaluations
SUSANNE CERVENKA @SCERVENKA

WALL - The municipal tax assessor has been placed on paid administrative leave as Wall officials review the work completed by the company hired to place values on all of the properties in the township.
Wall Township Administrator Jeff Bertrand said Wednesday he
asked Tax Assessor William FitzPatrick to not be in the office while
he and the townships tax attorney undertake the review of Realty Appraisal Company, which won a $715,000 contract to conduct a townwide revaluation.
I felt the best way to do that considering some of the nuances of the
situation was to not have Bill involved in that, Bertrand said.
Those nuances were highlighted in an Asbury Park Press investigation into Monmouth Countys Assessment Demonstration Program,
a pilot program that radically changes the countys property tax system.

Monmouth puts
together honors
for Lego writers
ALEX BIESE @ABIESEAPP

Two of the biggest filmmakers in Hollywood are

heading back to school next week.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the writers and directors behind The Lego Movie (2014) as well as
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009), 21 Jump
Street (2012) and 22 Jump Street (2014) will appear at Monmouth University in West Long Branch on
Monday, when they will receive the Monmouth Award
for Communication Excellence from the schools Department of Communication.
The pair will attend an award ceremony at 7:30 p.m.
at the universitys Pollak Theatre honoring their careers and accomplishments. The evening will include
a discussion moderated by university professor of
communication Robert Scott. While the event is free,
reservations are required. A cocktail reception will
precede the ceremony at 6 p.m. in the Pollak Theatre
Gallery, with tickets priced at $75.
Monmouth University Communication Council
chair Jim Hickey said Lord and Miller meet the three
criteria for MACE honorees: they have achieved extraordinary success in their professional lives,
earned the respect of their peers and can serve as role
models for Monmouth University students.
Theyre very creative, they take film making to
what I think is the next level with their approach, like
in The Lego Movie, using Legos to create an adventure story, said Hickey, a retired ABC news correspondent who received an honorary doctorate of public service from Monmouth University in 2007.
Throughout their career, which has including a
time writing and producing for the hit sitcom How I
Met Your Mother, Lord and Miller have shown themSee HONORS, Page 16A

They just have this creative,

refreshing look at film making that I
think is resonating not only with
audiences but with critics, too.
