JACKSON - The Orthodox Jewish all-girls high

school that sparked fears of a new Lakewood here has
been denied by an Ocean County judge.
In a 22-page opinion, Assignment Judge Marlene
Lynch Ford upheld the township zoning boards 2014 decision to reject Oros Bais Yaakov, proposed on Cross
Street near the Lakewood border.
The zoning board cited concerns that the proposed
two-story school and its nearly 500 students would disrupt the character of a residential neighborhood that
couldnt support the resulting traffic, water and septic
needs. It has since opened up in the Lakewood industrial park.

The strongest hurricane on record in the West

Hemisphere smashed southwestern Mexico Friday
night with wind speeds of 160 mph.
Hurricane Patricia, a Category 5 storm, was seen
hovering over the eastern Pacific coast with a central
pressure of 880 millibars, the lowest sea-level pressure ever recorded by the National Hurricane Center.
By way of comparison, superstorm Sandy had maximum sustained winds of 105 mph and 941 millibars
when it walloped the Bahamas as a Category 2 hurricane three years ago, before moving on to New Jersey.
The most intense tropical cyclone on record is Olivia,
which barraged Australia in 1996, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It
had wind speeds of up to 253 mph.
Several parts of Mexico are under a hurricane
warning, from San Blas to Punta San Telmo, and residents have been warned to evacuate, according to the
hurricane center. Meteorologists warn of not only
harsh coastal impacts, but of life-threatening flash
floods and mud slides.

Vivian Eley made it from Springwood Avenue in Asbury Park to Broadway in the 1930s. She also went to the
famed Moulin Rouge in Paris, where she performed in
the Cotton Club Review in 1937.
Eley, who sung in the 1939 original all-black cast version of the The Hot Mikado on Broadway, will be memorialized as an Asbury Angel on the citys boardwalk
today. Eley will join eight other members of the Asbury
Park music scene who also have passed on with plaques
