I finally got my test wires to work out so Ill be hooking this up tomorrow, fina

lly. As for a write up I can do my best to summarize here real quick, hopefully
this makes sense if not just let me know and Ill try to help. I got plenty of he
lp from others here that got this done so Im more than happy to return the favor
.
Unlock / Lock actuator:

, 16 ga wire (I used red and black), mounting hardware
I used a quick disconnect plug at the tailgate so I could potentially remove my
tailgate without issue in the future. This wiring is pretty straight forward onc
e you find the lock and unlock wires. On my truck, 2013, the lock was Gray with
Brown stripe and the unlock wire was light blue and green. The actuator will hav
e two wires on it one splices into the lock wire and the other splices into the
unlock wire. Once you get it hooked up make sure to test it before soldering and
taping up the wires, if the actuator is locking when you want it to unlock you
just have to switch the wires around.
Mounting the actuator was probably the trickiest part of this one to make sure t
hat it actually locks and unlocks the tailgate. The action on the actuator is no
t the same as the lock mechanism so it takes some trial and error. If you look a
round you can find pictures of several different options on how to mount this fo
r it to work.
I ran all of this to the drivers side foot well because I was not concerned if t
he tailgate unlocked with the drivers door or the passenger door. There are othe
r options to run this to the passenger door so it only unlocks on the second pus
h of the unlock button on your key fab.
Trunk Release:

This is the one that gave me the most trouble. For starters you need a 14ga. pow
er and ground wire to the relay switch which will be located in your drivers foo
t well (Power from battery and I ran my ground to inside the engine compartment)
, a 14ga. Power wire from your relay back to the release location in your tailga
te (again I used a disconnect at the tailgate to allow for removal), a power and
ground wire to the TR-7 (I used 16ga. for this and again ran them to inside the
engine compartment). Additionally I installed an inline fuse on both the power
lines to the relay and the TR-7 (25 amp for the relay and 5 amp for the TR-7).
Now the fun begins After you connect your ground to the TR-7 you need to program
it. Follow the instructions that came with the TR-7 and it may take multiple tr
ies, make sure to read all the directions especially about the Pulse required when
programing. After you get the TR-7 programmed, I used feature 14 to read 4 puls
es of my unlock wire within 5 seconds, then you need to connect the green wire t
o the unlock wire in your foot well, and the blue wire to the relay.

relay the configuration should be as follows:

Ground
Power from batter 14ga.
Input from TR-7 (blue wire)
14ga. wire from relay to trunk release

Once this is all hooked up all you have to do is connect the ground to the trunk

release (the model I used is self-grounding but you may need to run a wire to i
t anyway if you don t get a good unpainted connection when mounting it).
After that there may be some minor adjustments in the mounting of the release to
ensure that it pulls enough to actually open the tailgate. Some other items to
note are you will need to drill a hole to get the wires into the drivers side do
or well, it may need to be a decent size hole to ensure that you can get all the
wires into the area, there will be at minimum 7 wires coming in so one large ho
le or two small ones. With the holes you will need a grommet and some sealant fo
r when you get done so the wires don t rum, and I also suggest that all wires be i
n wire loom.
When you write it out it sounds fairly simple and probably should be. I more tha
n likely would not have taken so long to get this installed but I was insistent
on testing everything before I mounted anything which was good because I did find
I had a faulty relay which was causing me so much frustration. Again, let me kno
w if anyone needs any help I will certainly try to help anyway I can.
