Dear Fellow Elks,

October was a very busy month at the Lodge. October 3, we had a visit
from 40 members of the Rochester Hew Hampshire lodge. There were about
20 members from our lodge that were on hand to welcome them. There was
music and karaoke. They had a great time and had some very good talent in the
crowd. They invited us to visit their lodge and we are planning on doing a trip
to visit them. The next day we had a crowd of volunteers at the lodge for clean
up day. It turned into a painting party which resulted in a brand new and clean
look for the Grill Room. On October 24 we put in a new carpet. All the materials and labor
were donated by dedicated Elk Members. Thank you all who donated money and labor. If you
haven't been to the lodge in a while come check out the new look.
October 10 was the State Presidents visit. We had a great time with a prime rib dinner
and the annual variety show. We had Elk members from several Lodges around the State along
with 200 in attendance. A great time was had by all. We had a photo booth which raised $60.00
for the Maine Children Cancer Program also, we raised $527.00 with a 50/50 with the winner
donating his winnings back to the Maine Children Cancer Program. This young man is getting
married soon and I'm sure he could have used the money but felt this cause was more
important. Thank You Very Much for your unselfish act. I would like to thank everyone who
worked for the show and worked in the kitchen under an unexpected situation.
Scheduled for November 14 is a benefit for Honor Flight Maine. This organization fly's
veterans to see the memorials in Washington DC. currently the focus is on getting WW II
veterans first, because of their age. There will be a presentation on Honor Flight followed by
entertainment.
The annual Turkey Bowling will be o n November 20. Come Join the fun an maybe win a
turkey. I hope you all have a great thanksgiving.
Please remember it takes a lot of volunteers to run a successful Elks Lodge. Come in
and visit your Lodge and volunteer for whatever you feel comfortable with. The more that get
involved the better it is for every one. At our meeting on November 10 there will be
nominations for the office of Lecturing Knight and Tiler. If there are nominations the elections
will be held on November 24. Thank You all for your Support.
Fraternally Yours in Elkdom

From Elk Lodge #1002, Magazine 1919

A member of the Order of Elks can find a home in every city in the United States of America, and a welcome wherever he [she]
may chance to go. He [she]can find friends ready to help him [her] should he [she] be in distress, or to start him [her] out right
should he[she] be traveling in a wrong way. Members of the Order are present in every community, on all trains, on the highways
and in all public places. To carry an up-to-date membership card is the duty and privilege of each member of the Order. Surely
one can ill afford to neglect to qualify as an Elk by paying his [her] dues promptly, and in other ways conducting himself [herself]
in accordance with the teachings of the Order he[she] is obligated to support in every way.
Thank you to the members who recently remitted their 2015-2016 dues. The Lodge has recently finished contacting all members
who remained delinquent in paying the 2015-2016 dues. Apologies to those few members who were contacted and had
previously paid.
Your Secretary,
Winnifred Gray
