E-library is generally a library where books can be accessed

through internet. Just sitting anywhere or anytime a user can read the material
online. E-library is generic term for all electronically supported libraries. Physical
site and or website that provide twenty four hours online access to digitized
audio, video and written material.
The image and native files are available on our desktop.
Through e-library people may request copies of older documents, which are
available only on microfilms and aperture cards.

.
An electronic library is a forced collection of digital objects
that can include text, visual material, video material stored as electronic media
formats along with means for organizing, storing and retrieving the files and
media contained in the library collection. An electronic library also referred to as a
digital library or digital depository. These libraries can vary immensely in size and
scope, and can be maintained by individuals, organizations, or affiliated with
established physical library buildings or institutions or with academic institution.
The electric content may be stored locally, or accessed remotely via computer
networks. An electronic library is a type of information retrieval system. Some
important e-libraries also serve as long term archives, such as Digital public library
of America, seek to make digital information.
Most e-libraries provide a search interface which allows
resources t be found. These resources are typically deep web (invisible web)
resources since they frequently cannot be located by search engine crawlers.
Some libraries create special pages or sitemaps to allow search engines to find all
their resources. Digital libraries frequently use the open Archives initiative
protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) to expose their metadata to other
digital libraries, and search engines like Google scholar, Yahoo and Scirus can also
use OAI-PMH to find deep web resources.

ADVANTAGES OF E-LIBRARY

1. Easily and rapidly accessing information.

2. No physical library boundary: the user of e-library need not to go the library
physically. Many people can gain access same information at the same time
as long as the internet connection is available.
3. A major advantage of e-library is that people gain information twenty four
hours.
4. The retrieval of information is easy and it can prove entire collection
5. Space: Traditional libraries are limited by storage space; e-libraries have the
potential to store much more information.

ELIBRARY PROVIDES
1. Power search capabilities, including the ability to search the text of recent,
scanned documents using optical character recognition.
2. Desktop access to electronic fillings, scanned documents and large format
maps.
3. Several file formats for accessing and downloading documents.
4. The option to request that documents be printed or download at your
desktop, or by the contractor in the public reference room.
The e-library is the result of a combination and
enhancement of the data and capabilities of several earlier systems. The system:

Adds enhanced and more powerful searches for documents.

Provide a seamless interface to electronic fillings.
Improve the ability to view large format maps.
Enables users to select from several formats for downloading documents.

Provides users with the ability to search the text of newly scanned
documents that have been converted to
PDF
Enables users to request that documents be

Downloaded to a CDOn the Internet, the use of a digital library is enhanced by

a broadband connection such as cable modem or DSL. Dial-up connections can
be used to access plain-text documents and some documents containing
images, but for complex files and those with animated video content, a
downstream data speed of at least several hundred kilobits per second ( Kbps )
can make the user's experience less tedious, as well as more informative.
Internet-based digital libraries can be updated on a daily basis. This is one of
the greatest assets of this emerging technology.
