Facts

Co-operative society is a voluntary association of


persons who join together with the motive of
welfare of the members.
Co-operative societies are of different types:
consumers co-operative societies, producers cooperative

society,

marketing

co-operative

societies, farmers co-operative societies, credit


co-operative

societies,

co-operative

housing

societies.
The consumers co-operative societies are formed
for protecting the interest of the consumers.
Consumers co-operative society purchases goods
in bulk directly from the wholesalers and sells
goods to the members.
Producers co-operative societies are set up to
protect the interest of small producers.
Producers co-operative societies supplies raw
materials, equipment and other inputs to the
members and also buy their output for sales.
Marketing co-operative societies are established

to help small producers in selling their products.


Farmers co-operative societies are established to
protect the interest of farmers by providing
better inputs at a reasonable cost.
Credit co-operative societies are established for
providing easy credit on reasonable terms to the
members.
Co-operative housing societies are established to
help people with limited income to construct
houses at reasonable costs.
The main aim of these co-operative societies is
to avoid the middle man and thereby reducing the
cost.
The profit, if any, is shared among the members
of the co-operative society.
