LEA 5 Police Personnel and Records Management

FINAL RESEARCH/TERM PAPER OUTLINE AND REMINDERS

I. Introduction (1-3 pages)
The introduction should have some of the following elements, this also
discusses the PROBLEM:

Start with an attention grabber: a short story, example, statistic,

or historical context that introduces the paper topic
Give an overview of any issues involved with the subject (like
problems in PNP recruitment or promotion)
Define of any key terminology need to understand the topic (like
what is padtrino system in police recruitment or what is
longevity pay if your topic is police compensation)
Highlight background information on the topic needed to
understand the direction of the paper
The introduction must end with the RESEARCH (TERM) statement (1 to
2 sentences in length)
Tell what the overall paper will focus on
Briefly outline the main points in the paper
II. Body (1- 6 pages)
Clearly present the main points of the paper as listed in the
research or term paper
Give strong examples, details, and explanations to support each
main point (align with the facts given by your police subject)
Use strong evidence from sourcesparaphrases, summaries, and
quotations that support the main points (may use books, facts
from the interviewee and internet sources)
III. Conclusion (1-3 pages)

Restate your research from the introduction in different words (Do

not give your own opinion, refer to facts)
Briefly summarize each main point found in the body of the paper
(avoid going over 2 sentences for each point)
End with a strong clincher statement: an appropriate, meaningful
final sentence that ties the whole point of the paper together (may
refer back to the attention grabber)

NOTES:
1. Decide on the TOPIC and main points first
2. You do not need to start writing your paper with the introduction

3. Try writing the TOPIC and body first; then go back and figure out
how to best introduce the body and conclude the paper
4. Use transitions between main points and between examples within the
main points
5. Always keep your RESEARCH/TERM PAPER in the forefront of your
mind while writing; everything in your paper must point back to the
topic
6. Be sure to follow the format and outline given. (NON COMPLIANCES
