Safety Plans and Work Method Statements

OHS Safety Plans

The Principal contractor must provide a site induction for everyone involved with every construction
site.
Where the contract cost reaches $250,000 a Safety Plan must be established before work
commences. The plan must be kept up to date and available for inspection during the course of
work.

Safe Work Method Statements

Sub contractors must provide a Safe Work Method
Statement to the principal contractor for all high risk activities.
The principal contractor must provide supervision to the extent
Necessary to ensure that the SWMS is being followed.

Objectives
Understand the difference between safety policies,
safety plans, and SWMS.
Understand the importance and requirements of safety
policies and SWMS
Undertake a risk assessment of particular work tasks
Develop and implement your own policies, plans &
