are in session.

Benefit Planned for Scholarship Program to Honor Coach Star…Emmons School

District 33, in conjunction with Dockers North Restaurant and Lounge, will host a buffet dinner
to raise money to fund an athletic scholarship in the name of Ms. Starla Williams. Coach Star
passed away last week after a serious car accident. We would like to honor Starla’s memory as a
coach and mentor here by funding scholarship programs both locally and at IUPFW (where
Starla attended college) that will provide deserving student athletes the opportunity to participate
in basketball, a sport which had meant so much to Starla and to which she devoted so much of
herself. This event will be held at Dockers North, 955 North IL Route 59, Antioch, from 7-9pm
on Thursday, March 4th. Tickets for adults and children are $20 each and can be purchased by
contacting Carla Pratt at Emmons School at (847) 395-1105 x210. Tickets will also be available
at the door. A buffet dinner including pizza, wings, meatballs, lasagna, salad bar, and more will
be served from 7:00-9:00pm. Mr. Marcos Martinez, manager of Dockers North, has graciously
donated all the food for this fundraiser (the buffet does not include drinks). 100% of the money
collected will be donated to this scholarship program. We hope you will join us for this
important event to help us pay tribute to our friend.

Illinois Standards Achievement Test…ISATs begin Monday, March 1st. Testing is

scheduled for the morning periods through Friday, March 5th. Please be sure that your students
get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast.

Fun Fest traditions, such the Cake Walk, face painting, and food. We may also have a few new
surprises this year. The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open during the Family Fun Fest.
Parents are asked to bring their baked goods for the Cake Walk to school on Friday, February
26th or the 27th before 6:00pm. The PTO is also looking for volunteers for this event – if you are

Communication Committee Needs Volunteers…The District 33 Communications

Committee is looking for parent volunteers who would be willing to submit information about
Emmons School (like calendar dates, sporting events, and District activities) to our local Pioneer
Press, Daily Herald, and Chicago Tribune correspondents. If you have about an hour a week that
you would be willing to devote to helping us in this way, please contact Dr. Machak at (847)

Date of PTO Auction Changed…Our annual Emmons District Golf Outing and Auction to
benefit the students and programs at Emmons School will be held on Friday, April 30th. This
event had originally been scheduled for May 7th. This daylong fundraiser will be held at Antioch
Golf Course.

Join the Club!..Mrs. White, our very own Kindergarten teacher, and Mrs. Lockefeer, a very
dedicated and talented Emmons parent, are now forming the Emmons Spirit Club. The goal of
the Spirit Club will be to, of course, spread school spirit! The club will support a wide variety of
our school events such as next week’s 8th Grade Girls Basketball Conference Tournament hosted
by Emmons. During the first meeting, next Wednesday, March 3rd, 3:30-5:00pm, the club
members will make posters and signs to decorate the halls, the Commons, and the locker rooms
for the Tournament. Any students who are interested should contact Mrs. White before
Wednesday.
