Character of God

1. God is FAITHFUL
A) It doesn't depend on us, but on Him
– 2 Tim 2:13

“if we are faithless,


He will remain faithful,
for He cannot disown Himself”

2. God is MERCIFUL
- Eph 2:4-5
- Micah 7:18
“Who is a God like you,
who pardons sin and forgives the transgression
of the remnant of his inheritance?
You do not stay angry forever
but delight to show mercy”

* God delights in being merciful

A) He is looking for any excuse to
show mercy

1. Repentance – Jonah 3:10

2. Intercession – Ezek 22:30, Ex


32:11-14

3. God is JUST
Both mean:
Tsedek (Hebrew) Justice and
Dikalos (Greek) Righteousness
*God always does the right thing and He is the
ultimate standard of what is right

• Deut 32:4 - “He is the Rock; His deeds are


perfect. Everything He does is just and fair.
He is a faithful God who does no wrong;
how just and upright He is!”

* God's forgiveness is not only a bi-product


of His mercy, but also of His Justice.

i.e. - If someone repents, God must


forgive them!!!!

WHY?! Because He is JUST – 1 John

4. God is GENEROUS
• Gen 22:14 – A giver
• Mt 7:11

“So if you sinful people know how to give good


gifts to your children, how much more will
your heavenly Father give good gifts to those
who ask him.”

• Rm 8:32

5. God is JEALOUS – (2 contexts)

A)As a Father – watchfulness &


protectiveness

B)As a husband/lover – desiring ALL of his


wifes' affection – Ex 34:14

“You must worship no other gods, for the


Lord, whose very name is Jealous, is a God
who is jealous about His relationship with you”

6. God is PERSONAL – 1 Peter 5:7
“Give all your worries and cares to God, for
He cares about you”
Evidence? God desires to communicate with us
- Acts 17:27
“His purpose was for the nations to seek
after God and perhaps feel their way toward
him and find Him, though he is not far from
any one of us”

a. Through His word (the Bible)

b. Godly people – parents, pastors,


leaders

c. Un-Godly people (Criticism)
