Geo G Final Report
Geo G Final Report
Alongside college life, students encounter distractions that prevent them from
doing the important things. There is Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social
media that may sidetrack their focus. For some, sports and recreational
activities may also serve as disturbances. Even friends or organizations may
pose as diversions from studying. Whatever activity a student may endeavor,
their primary aim is always to study hard and eventually graduate from school.
To do so, each student develops and practices his or her own study habits.
Study habits can be defined as having a dedicated practice, good or bad, to
apply ones self to the task of learning. These study habits are formed and
developed throughout our school lives. A student has good study habits when
he/she is always organized, keeps good notes, reads textbooks, listens to the
teacher, and works hard every day. Skipping class, not doing your work,
watching TV or playing video games instead of studying and procrastinating are
signs of having bad study habits.
The study aims to determine the study habits of the University of the Philippines
Diliman students and find the relationship of these study habits to the overall
academic performance of these students.
Problem
Objectives
1.) Determine which study habit(s) is(are) prevalent among the students of UP
Diliman.
2.) Conclude which study habits are considered effective and develop a
relationship between study habits and the academic performance of UPD
students based on their general weighted average (GWA) or TGWA.
3.) Show the effects of technology and other factors (e.g. music, food,
availability of study materials, place and time of studying) in the study habits
and eventually in the academic performance of students in UPD.
4.)
Significance
Finding out the study habits of students is very relevant. Figuring out the
relationship of study habits, a students GWA, and other factors will surely be
beneficial to a number of people such as university administrators, teachers or
instructors, students and other interested researchers.
University Administrators. The study may aid in guiding and understanding
the students that may help the university officials and administration in creating
academic policies in the university as well as ___
Instructors. The knowledge of the study habits of UPD students may have a
better understanding for the professors and instructors in developing more
effective methods and ways of teaching as well as modifying certain class
policies that may suit the students in faring better in academics.

Other factors overlooked. Only a number of factors are considered in the
study. In the report, only the study habits are considered in determining the
academic performance of the students under scrutiny. There are other factors
which were not considered, that may affect their GWA (e.g. attendance
(tardiness and absences), projects and other school requirements). Though the
students may have high scores in examinations, which may be attributed to
good study habits, these other factors may be instrumental in pulling the grades
either higher or lower.
