FROM YOUR PASTOR

Mike Northcutt - ebc@eastmont.org

Last Sunday had to be one of my top five
worship experiences at Eastmont. Close to the
Paid in Full Celebration of 2013. The unanimous
call (and acceptance) of Brother Lance to be our
Minister of Music and Worship was a huge factor.
Yet something greater took place Sunday. Some
may not have sensed it, but I believe many felt what
I felt. Here is what God showed me.

I saw our diverse congregation immersed
in the majesty and worship of God. It wasnt
showy sensationalism, but a calm awareness of
Gods wonder and providence. It was powerfully
simple. Strong yet gentle. Gratefulness searches
for splendor. We found that last Sunday in Gods
beauty.

As Pastor, I like to think I can see what
God is doing in this church. He surprised me
again. The growth. The maturity. The unity. The
acceptance of all ages, shapes, colors, and sizes. We
realize all of us are created and loved by God. He
has given us eyes to see His beauty in wrinkles,
tattoos, bifocals and beards. We look passed the
pierced lip or gray hair. We respect the wisdom of
the elder and the energy and innocence of children.
We know God is making a masterpiece of us all.
Tears blurred my eyes as I thought of so many
volunteers who make each Sunday possible. I am
aware of the treasure we have in them.

Over time a church can settle into a dull
routine. They simply start doing church instead
of being the church. The secret is in the heart and
we still have it. We serve with our heart. Sing with
our heart. See one another from the heart. Most
importantly, we make sure worship is from our
heart and not a ritual.

Occasionally, God sends us through
detours, dead ends, and dry spells, just so He can
restore us to Himself. Im glad that we still love
Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and body.
