Description
The Signature D, Product Family No. H43210, and Signature DB, Product Family No. H43211,
Retainer Production Permanent Packers are the most widely used, most versatile, high performance production packers available. They are also frequently used as a permanent squeeze or testing packer, or
as a bridge plug. The DB is distinguished from the D by the DB's blank or threaded (box or pin) bottom
guide. This DB Guide can be threaded to accept a Millout Extension, a Seal Bore Extension, or tubing.

Packer Options
The Signature D and DB Packers are available
in the following versions:
1. Bottom Guide with tapered API thread down for
use with Millout Extension or to connect to customers tubing.
2. Bottom Guide with straight thread down to accept Seal Bore Extension.
3. Packers Without Guides - Signature D Retainer
Production Packers and their guides can be ordered individually to maximize inventory flexibility.
NOTE: The Packers less guides are incomplete
assemblies and cannot be run without the
installation of a Plain Bottom or DB Guide. The
appropriate Guide, O-rings, Back-Up Rings and Set
Screws must be ordered separately and installed on
the packer prior to running.
NOTE: For detailed information on Bottom Guides,
Millout and Seal Bore Extensions, refer to
information in Unit No. 8221 under the Packer
Systems/Single
String
Permanent
Packer
Accessories section.
Reference Material
For complete information covering the Baker
Seal Assemblies and the B Expendable Plug,
Product Family No. H66540, refer to the appropriate units filed under the Packer Systems/Single
String Permanent Packer Accessories section.
NOTE: Expendable Plug is not recommended for use
with Packers assembled with Seal Bore or Millout
Extensions.
Operating Procedures
For Wireline Setting
The D Packer, B Wireline Adapter Kit, Baker
Firing Head, and E-4 Wireline Pressure Setting Assembly are run to the required depth, and the Firing Head is triggered. After the Packer sets, the
running equipment releases automatically and can
be retrieved.
Prior to running the Signature Packer in the
well, it is recommended that a H Wireline Feeler
and Junk Catcher, Product Family No. H43901,
with proper size gage ring be run to ensure the
hole is clear of debris and that the wellbore is large
enough in diameter to permit passage of the packer. Refer to Unit No. 4900 for information and detailed running instructions for the Wireline Feeler
and Junk Catcher.
Setting Sequence
Upon reaching setting depth, a Power Charge
in the Pressure Setting Assembly is ignited to generate gas pressure that is transmitted, as a controlled setting force, through the Adapter Sleeve,
forcing it down and pulling the Body up. The movement of parts resulting from this action sets the Upper Slips, packs-off the Packing Element and sets
the Lower Slips. Once the required setting and
pack-off force has been reached, the Release Stud
shears and the Setting Assembly and Adapter Kit
are removed from the well leaving the bore of the
packer open.
CAUTION
After firing, the Pressure Setting Assembly will
contain gaseous combustion products at high
pressure in the Cylinder and Pressure
Chamber. Observe the safety notices in the E-4
W.L.P.S.A, Remedial Systems Technical Unit
4180.

For specifications on those packers and their accessories that are not shown in this Specification Guide, refer to other Packer System tech
units.
z The ID through the upset in Internal Upset Casing may be smaller than the minimum ID listed, but in all cases will be sufficiently larger than
the Packer OD.
The maximum OD (including tolerances) of any part run through a Baker Retainer Production Packer should be at least 1/16'' smaller than
the minimum bore through the Packer Body. This may occasionally require that the coupling OD's be turned down to the dimensions shown
in the column headed Integral Joint or Coupling - Special Clearance OD in the Tubing Dimensional Data Chart shown in the current Baker
Catalog. Refer to this chart for other pertinent tubing data.
Minimum lower bore of all DA Packers can also be used as sealing bore.
* Tubing Seal Assemblies, Tubing Seal and Spacer Nipples, and Flow Tubes.
Size 20-19 should be used if OD of locator head is not critical. Size 40-19 has smaller OD head. Refer to dimensional data on
accessories in other Packer System tech units.
** Size 40-26 should be used if OD of locator head is not critical. Size 80-26 has smaller OD head. Refer to dimensional data on
accessories in other Packer System tech units.

* Use the Size 10 Wireline Pressure Setting Assembly only with the size packers indicated in this Specification Guide. Use with larger
sizes will result in improper setting.
** If a Size 10 Pressure Setting Assembly and Firing Head are not available, a Size 20 may be run. The assembled tools, however, should
be run at a slower rate.
Either a Size 10 or Size 20 Wireline Feeler and Junk Catcher may be run in this range. A different Size 32 Gage Ring is required with
the Size 10 than that required with the Size 20.
