Sand Painters Art Guild Newsletter

http:/www.schemmerstudios.com
Our March meeting will be Tuesday, March 23, at Cherry Hills Estates, Valentine, NE.
We will meet at 6:00 p.m., CT, for a light supper. During this time we will share works in progress or completed and
have a business meeting. Here are Joan’s instructions for the meeting:

Hey--get your things gathered for the next Sand Painters meeting...
--things to bring to the gathering
1) Art in any stage of completion that may be your Spring Selection Show art.
2) Art Then and Now--art from any point in your past and something current---
these will be put in the library show for the first part of April.
3) Your painting on photo project/s from the last meeting.
4) Any art you would like to see in a variety of mats and frames.
5) Energy to produce some sunshine---we so need to get out of this long winter of
overcast skies. Joke.

The Sand Painters have a special friend, Wilma Schaffert, who has
donated 3 prints and an original painting to be given away at the
meetings. So, attending the meetings will have an extra bonus,
you can add your name to the “hat” for each meeting you attend
for the next 2 meetings, we will give everyone present a chance to
win. This is not a fund raiser. The Winner will be drawn the day of
the ANAC Selection Show, in April. These are just to be gifts as a
thank you for including her in some of the Sand Painter events.
The three prints were drawn for at the February meeting. Those
lucky enough to win were Joan Swim, Geri Coleman, and Stuart
Grant. The original painting is still left to be drawn. Don’t miss
the meetings you may be the lucky one.

February Library Art Show will feature Pat Schemmer’s rural students, honoring Youth Art Month. Don’t
miss seeing the show.
VAAC Event artist: March 14, Pat Schemmer showed Rural School Spirit of Nebraska Contest pieces.

February 2010 Minutes

The Sand Painters Art Guild met February 23, 2010 at Cherry Hills in their meeting room in Valentine, NE. A light
supper was enjoyed before the meeting. Lucky winners of the drawings for three of the four Wilma Schaffert pieces were
Joan Swim-Peonies, Geri Coleman-Football, and Stuart Grant- Old Pickup. Artworks too numerous to mention were
displayed at the north side of the room. Many pieces were the White challenge.

County Fair Judge/Teacher was discussed. There was some discussion of a photo class at fair. Those judges mentioned
were John Banasiak, John Farr, and John Day. Mary Eatinger made a motion to have Donna Binfield return to teach and
judge the fair this year. Joan Swim seconded the motion. The motion passed.

For the photo enthusiasts there is a workshop in Hastings, NE, February 26 and 27, 2010 by Michael Forsberg.

Jenny Reece, Youth Activity Director, has requested artists to become mentors to youth. The program will require an
artist to work with 3-4 youths for 2 hours on a Saturday morning, creating art. Some artist showed interest and dates for
the sessions will be worked out later.

The Bull Bash show will come down at the end of February. Art can be picked up at the end of the show or it will be
stored in the closet at the library.

The Sand Painters Art Guild web site is going well. Be sure to check in during the month and read the blog. Post a
comment to let your fellow members know what you are doing.

Mary Black Bonnet told about her paid writing job “Life as a Human Being”,
http://lifeasahuman.com/author/maryblackbonnet/ . Please visit the site and read Mary’s blog as she gets paid by the
visit. Great Job Mary!!

Stuart Grant told of a movie project that he has been working on for 16 years, Where the Eagles Fly, the life from birth to
death of Crazy Horse. He is in the process of working out the details for filming. The movie would be filmed on
authentic sites in Nebraska, South Dakota and elsewhere. It is possible the film will be ready by November 2010. Yeah
Stuart!!!!!

Next Month’s challenge will be “Now and Then”. This challenge will be the April show. ANAC pieces are due at the
end of April.

The meeting adjourned.

Anita’s painting on photos project was great fun and turned out some great works. Thanks so much Anita.

Good News - Donna Binfield has said that she would love to return to Valentine to teach a class and judge
the county fair. She did say that it will depend on her health issues. She will keep us posted but as of right now -
Donna will be our judge and workshop person.
Pat Schemmer had an absolutely wonderful workshop in Ainsworth with high
school students learning how to throw. Some people had never tried to
throw before and got their clay centered and up. It was so great to see the
excitement in their eyes when everything worked.

Art Conference in Ainsworth next week. This is a conference for music and
art students to get together and have different workshops and a show and

teach caricatures and Pat will instruct raku tile painting.

be an Internet link to ideas for sketchbook/journal entries. (The sketchbooks can be very simple and inexpensive
or more elaborate---you decide.)

I have a web site that has instructions on how to do about anything...there are many art instructions...you will
want to check it out...this is the address for a very simple roll up pencil pouch...great to go with your
sketchbook.
