START UP PROCEDURE GAS PLANT

!!! Ask Engine room to start second Auxiliary engine before start up procedure!!!

In cargo control room

-

Check on flemming control if Mycom capacity is less than 10%, otherwise adjust by meaning of
oilpump before start up.The flemming control is on the computer and in the compressor room.
Switch on ventilation. (if not running yet ), the ventilation switch is on the bridge for comp. Room and
on the CCR for the electric room.
Start Cooling water Gas plant on the NOR control.
Wait till you see water coming out
Switch second cooling water pump on AUTO mode.
Adjust differential pressure with outlet valves for condensors approx.0.5-0.6 barg.
Also make sure that the actuator for the tank is open.

On deck
-

Condensate valve tank 2 completely open

Condensate valve tank 1open only 25%, or if only using one unit compressor open one tank
condensate only and then can shift to other tank every several hours.
make sure that the vapour line from the tank is open.

Compressor room
-

Condensate collector (regulator ) on manual and close with Y knob, turn anticlockwise for close and
clockwisae for open.
Economizer (regulator ) on manual and turn pointer with Y knob till 0.6
Open inlet valve Propylene and valve 1 to strainer.
Start oil pump ( selector switch on 2= compressor service ).
Push Mycom start button (twice ) and wait till green flashing indicator on alarm panel stays steady.
After white indicator 5 minutes waiting time start Mycom by pushing start button again( ones only ).
If suction press. Decrease, open 2nd and 3rd valve to strainer.
Adjust suction slowly to 25% with hand lever and wait few minutes till pressure and temp. settles.
If so adjust slowly to 50%.
Start SULZER on 50% and adjust to 100% if running well
Wait till pressure on Ethylene condenser is reaching 10 barg.
If so, increase Mycom to 85%.
If pressure and temperature settle down again, increase to final 100%
If pressure on condensate collector becomes to high ( more than 15 barg), open regulator condensate
collector and release 2 or 3 barg to the tank, but do this not more than 3 to times.
If press. Still too high, reduce sulzer load to 50%.

Economizer
Keep an eye on the Economizer pressure, because if it becomes approx. 5.5 barg. Everything will stop!!!
-

After 30 to 45 minutes you will get liquid in the economizer and if green pointer on regulator is in
conjunction with the red pointer, turn Y valve to 0.4 and switch regulator from manual to automatic.
Now you will get liquid in condensate collector and if so, turn Y valve condensate regulator to 0.2 and
swtch from manual to automatic.
NOTE: when sailing in bad weather (pitching), turn Pn value in regulator to 3.0 and reduce green
pointer value condensate collector with knob W to 15%,(otherwise you will get high level alarm on
Condensate collector and everything will stop).

What to do if Plant is stopped for any reason whatsoever.(ESD)

-

Mycom capacity has to be reduced to less than 10% again by running the oil pump and reduced with
hand lever, in this case close the valve of red screwcaps beside the Mycom and open the valve of red
screwcaps under the oil separator , and put the selector switch on 1 (oil pressure) before start the oil
pump.
Switch off the oil pump after the capacity of the Mycom is less than 10% and open/close the valve
(redscrewcaps) , then put back the selector switch on 2.
Close valve 2 and 3 to strainer.
Reduce Sulzer load to 50%
Re-start according above mentioned procedure.

Switching off unit Gasplant

-

Reduce Mycom to 25%

Reduce Sulzer to 50% and switch off (open by-pass valve a little bit).
Close inlet valve propylene and wait till suction pressure becomes 0 barg.
Reduce Mycom further to 0% and stop.
Stop oil pump and acknowledge the alarm (diff. Pressure oil separator).
Close valve 2 and 3 to strainer.
Switch regulator economizer to manual and turn Y knob clockwise to open completely.
Switch regulator of condensate collector to manual and turn Y knob clockwise to open completely.
Select standby pump of cooling water and reset
Switch off running pump.

Start procedure of PSA plant (from the manual CIRMAC International BV.)
-

Check the power supply.

Power on: compressor, air dryer and PSA. Make sure the air Dryer has been powered 24 hours before
start up.
Switch air dryer in remote position.
Swich compressor in remote position.
Switch selector AIR PURGING in off position.
Check position of the spectacle flange X-101 *)
Switch COMPRESSOR DELAY in on position.
Switch O2-ALARM in off position.
Adjust O2- ALARM.
Close HCV-303 and HCV 320
Open HCV 301 25%
Start PSA plant by pushing START button. Start-up[ cycle PSA plant begins: start compressor is
delayed for 5 minutes (if compresoor delay is on). PSA will start 1 minute after start-up compressor.

If pressure in mixing vessel V-301 is about 7 barg, adjust HCV-303/320 to high flow and open HCV301 complete.
Be sure hand control valve HCV-303 and HCV 320 are apprximately in the same position.
If the O2 alarm dissapears switch O2-alarm inon position. Now XV-320 closes and XV-303 opens and
Nitrogen is delivered.
Adjust HCV-303 to the required flow.

Start procedure AIR PURGING

-

Check the power supply

Power on: compressor, air dryer and PSA. Make sure the air dryer has been powered 24 hours before
start-up.
Switch air dryer in remote position.
Switch compressor in remote position.
Switch selector AIR PURGING inon position.
Check the position of spectacle flange X-101 *).
Switch compressor delay in on position.
Start PSA plant by pushing start button. Start-up cycle unit begins: Start compressor is delayed for 5
minutes (if compressor delayed is on).

* ) Be sure there is no pressure in the pipe line if you change the spectacle flange.
Stop procedure
Note: Never switch off unit by means of the main switch first!!!
Stop/ standby
-

If there is temporary no Nitrogen demand, wormgear operated valves HCV-303 and HCV-320 should
be closed
The PSA generator stops at the setpoints of the high pressure switch PS-301. The display shows PSA
PLANT STANDBY.
The PSA generator waits until the reset pressure of PS-301 is reached after opening valves HCV-303
and HCV-320. The PSA will restart automatically.

Stop/storage
In case the PSA plant should be stopped immediatelly, just push the STOP button. The PSA plant stops
immediatelly, blow off valve are opened for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes the units can be switched off by
means of the main switch.
If it is not necessary to stop the plant immediately close HCV-303 and HCV-320. Wait until the display
shows PSA PLANT STANDBY.
Wait until the compressor is for minimum two (2) in unload mode.
Push STOP button on PSA panel.
If the PSA plant is stopped by pushing stop, the button lights up red. Subsequently the START button starts
blinking to indicate that the PSA plant can be started again by pushing the start button.

Gassing-up procedures.
Propylene part.
-

Pressurize complete the propylene part with N2 till approx. 5 barg. To check for leakages and to lower
humidity.
- Blow off pressure and make vacuum with the transfer compressor till +/- -0.8 barg. (slack safety valve
on pressure side transfer compressor to blow off N2 to atmosphere).
- Connect oil filling hose next to oil filter and suck oil by meaning of vacuum in to oil system +/-160
ltrs.Take care not to suck in Oxigen because oil is very hygroscopic!!!
- After oil completed (+/-65 cm) suck in propylene liquid in to refrigerant condenser via filling line till
approx. 50 cm.
After first start-up, level propylene will drop a few centimeters.
Ethylene part.
-

Check carefully if all drains and/or open lines are closed again
Realize flow ethylene vapours via vapour line through compressors, condensor out to condensate line
and to vent mast till Nitrogen out of system.

Procedure for filling deck tank and transfer from deck tank to storage tank.
On the coral rigida we loaded approx. 10 MTs. PG- propylene in the deck tank as stock for the refrigerant
plant. To fill up refrigerant plant you need to transfer propylene to the storage tank.
Filling deck tank.
-

Segregate load line cargo tanks from manifold. (blind off)

Connect loadline decktank on manifold.
Lower down level indicator decktank by turning knob anti-clockwise on the backside of the clock till
bottom reading of +/- 0030 mm.
Release pressure tank if possible and start loading.

Transfer to Storage tank.

-

Lower pressure storage tank with use of transfer compressor to as low as possible.
Connect three to four small purging hoses together.
Connect between drain load line on decktank and blank flange transfer compressor.
With use of transfer compressor fill up storage tank. (first by pressure different).

Purging procedure concerning compressor room o/b Coral Rubrum.

Propylene part
-

De-pressurize propylene storage tank with use of transfer compressor.

By pressure difference drain refrigerant condensers in to storage tank via drain line, and if necessary
with use of transfer compressor via suction line on top of Refr. Condenser.

Suction off Vapours propylene part (condensers, oil separator, and suction strainer) till approx. 0.2
barg.
Drain oil system (+/- 160 ltrs) and keep drain open and disconnect level indicator.
Connect N2 purging hose between N2 valve in compr. Room and bottom drain of refrigerant condenser.
Open all valves + regulating valves by solenoid in E-room).
Vent off via vent mast top Refrigerant Condenser. (Pressurize a few times till +/- 3 t0 4 barg.0
Check gas/Nitrogen content with portable meters.

Ethylene part.
-

Open condensate drains at tank domes.

Realize N2 flow via vapour line through Sulzer, LPG Condenser, Ethylene condenser out to
condensate line and blow off line to vent mast.
Open all drains in compressor room and drains to evaporation pipe.
Purge also hot gas line to manifold.

Purging of compressor room is then completed and after regular checks of gas contets with use of portable
meters, keep N2 flow running during Hot and Cold operations. (Vapours in oil).
