Bunji Hydropower Project is located on

the Indus River in the districts of Gilgit
and Skardu. The selected project
layout includes 180 m high dam. The
reservoir will extend 17 km upstream
from the dam in a narrow valley and
have a gross storage of 282 million
cubic meters. The optimised maximum
power of the project is 5400 MW with a
corresponding discharge of 1500 cubic
meters per second.

Description

The preparation of proposed project

Tarbela Dam 4th Extension of
Hydropower will be financed by the
credit proceeds for the WCAP. The
studies carried out so far have
identified the Tarbela 4th Extension
Hydropower Project by installation of a
Hydropower plant on the Tarbela Dam
4th Tunnel which is currently designed
as the irrigation tunnel is technically
and economically feasible without
affecting the irrigation release
capabilities of the Tarbela Dam.
Studies also show that the optimum
capacity of the hydropower plant on
Tunnel-4 is 960 MW, comprising two
generating units of 480 MW each. The
objectives of the consultancy
assignment are to prepare this project.
