Bryant & Stratton College Statement

Please Attribute to:

Francis J. Felser, D.M., President & Chief Executive Officer

Bryant & Stratton College has been a leader in career-focused higher-education for over
160 years, serving thousands of students. It is our mission to assist our students in
determining career opportunities and jobs, creating an academic path to get them there
and make sure that they fully understand the net investment.
We believe that all colleges should be accountable to students to ensure they are
receiving a good value. We support the overarching goals of the National College
Scorecard. However, we believe some of the methods of calculation used in creating the
College Scorecard do not offer an accurate representation for students to evaluate
colleges. Additionally, some of the student population assumptions and measurement
markers do not make for apples-to-apples comparisons. (SEE BELOW FOR A DETAILED
LIST)
As career-colleges like Bryant & Stratton College serve primarily adult learners, we must
address a wide-range of external factors on a students path to graduation. Highereducation is not a one-size-fits-all approach and students need to find the right fit to be
successful. Bryant & Stratton College has invested in various institutional programs to
help drive the success of our diverse student body. We work to offer our adult learners
the right program, in the right market, at the right time with the right credentials. Not
only are our programs flexible and academically strong, but we go further than others in
preparing our students for success.
In supporting Ohio Means Jobs and as students prepare to enter the job force or advance
their career, we personalize our career planning services. Our EmployableYOU program
combines classroom work with hands-on experience and teaches students both the hard
and soft skills that employers want. We are leading the way with a holistic approach that
prepares students not just for a job, but a better life.
Key Speaking Points on College Scorecard
Some of the shortcomings of college scorecard systems include:

The National College Scorecard rates are reported based on first time, fulltime
enrollment in the September term. If a student starts at one college and finishes
at another, their data is tied only to the initial college of enrollment.
o

Upwards of 80 percent of Bryant & Stratton students have previously taken

college courses and are therefore not counted in such data. Many students
transfer here when a more traditional education setting doesnt work for
them.

Although Bryant & Stratton College offers bachelors and associate

degrees, the listed graduation rates relate only the Colleges associate
degree students. There have been misquotes comparing the Colleges two
year program graduation rate against a bachelors degree graduation rate
at other institutions.

The graduation rate at the Colleges downtown location does not reflect
our Cleveland market graduation rate and is compared with a market-wide
graduation rate for other institutions with more than one location.

The salaries reported are based upon all students who entered the College
10 years ago, not graduates.

The College scorecard contains information that is different from currently

available information on the College Navigator and federally required
student consumer information available on the Colleges website, which
has the potential to confuse prospective students.

The data looks at only students who receive federal student loans or Pell
grants. Any students funding their education on their own or through
personal loans or employers are not included in the data.
