MT NATP LIST

Tuition for Distance Online Theory-(Arrangements must be made approved distance clinical site): $150 per student.
Tuition for Miles City-$499 due the first day of class (includes free AHA HCP CPR and HS FA certifications and 1 free
state exam provided the student take it on the prescheduled date and time without exceptions. Otherwise, this opportunity is
forfeited.) Discounts are available.
Length-87 hours: (55 theory hours + 32 lab/clinical hours)
-55 hrs didactic classroom theory scheduled over a 3 wk time frame. Students may start on-line theory up to 1month before
the class start date if payment is made. Students may work at their own pace as long as all on-line test submission deadlines
for the enrolled class time-frame are met.
-32 hours Laboratory/Supervised Clinical Experience at Heart and Hands Training of Miles City as scheduled or approved
distance lab/clinical sites to be completed within 2months of the scheduled completion date of the on-line theory. The
scheduling and completion of distance clinical AFTER completion of online theory is between the student and Clinical
Instructor.
Certificate of Completion-Heart and Hands Nursing Assistant Training Program Certificate of Completion which
enables the student to take the: Montana State Nursing Assistant Certification Exam through an approved Headmaster
testing site within 2 yrs. of program completion. *Distance Lab/Clinical Students for AHA certifications: Ask about
completion of skills within 2 months of online theory, if interested.

Prerequisites-sophomore year of high school (special consideration given to students with high recommendation from
school official or other reputable professional)

Equipment and Supplies- Stethoscope and aneroid sphygmomanometer are highly recommended. Computer inter-
net and email access required for completion of exams and valuable supplementary class materials/practice.
Attire: Students will dress according to the clinical site dress code for all “on-site” activities.
Meeting Location:
On-line didactic classroom/theory component will be accessible from any computer connected to the Internet.
On-site Laboratory/Clinical portion of the class will be at approved clinical training sites with state-approved clinical
instructors. (Miles City clinical: Heart & Hands Training Lab/Testing Site)

Extra lab practice time may, also, be arranged upon request. This is especially recommended for blood pressure
measurement practice. I will always be available during the 3 wk time frames for scheduled classes, but contact cannot be

Description:This very rigorous MT-DPPHS-approved course provides the current fundamental knowledge and skills for
nursing and other related health-care professions, including AHA Health Care Provider Basic Life Support/First Aid. It is
designed to prepare students to successfully complete the MT state certification exam for CNAs and for employment in
long-term care settings. Students will be introduced to nurse assisting as an ever-increasingly valuable career based on
ethical health care principles that respect client individuality and promote optimum wellness, restoration, rehabilitation, and
independence in all dimensions of health and wellness.
Program Outcomes:
-Students will recognize the nursing assistant as a fundamentally valuable, highly-needed, respectable member of the health
care team providing care based on ethical principles that respect client individuality and promote optimum wellness,
restoration, rehabilitation, and independence in all dimensions of well-being.
-Students will be prepared to successfully demonstrate the fundamental nursing knowledge and skills required by OBRA
and MT-DPHHS for nurse assistant certification.
-Local students will be certified in AHA Health Care Provider Basic Life Support and First Aid. *This may be an option for
distance sites, as well, with special arrangements.
External Standards-The course text is correlated with the following:
-The curriculum must include content and training required by P.L. 100-203, Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987
and the Montana Department of Health and Human Services.
-The Basic Life Support/First Aid portion of this program is taught according to the American Heart Association standards.
Attendance Policy:
Attendance is mandatory by state law. Just as in the workplace, tardiness and frivolous (determined by the program and/or
clinical instructor) absence will not be tolerated. Such behavior will lead to expulsion from class and forfeiture of all class
expenses. Online attendance is determined by test submissions & completion of any other online assignments by the
deadlines.
Grading Information for Heart and Hands CNA:
-1 FINAL Exam 80% of total grade. This final exam must be passed with 80% in order to pass this class. An extra final will
be given for anyone scoring >75 but less than 80%.
-Clinical Experience-Pass or Fail - Must pass per clinical instructor evaluation
-Laboratory Practice/Demonstration- Pass or Fail - Must pass per clinical instructor evaluation
-10 On-line Chapter Tests &On-line Discussion/Communication for each chapter-20% of total grade
IF YOU FAIL THIS CLASS: you must retake the class at your own expense. There are lots of supplemental materials,
practice games, questions, and tests to help you be prepared for the final and state exam. Headmaster has $5 practice exams
that are very beneficial, as well.

A-92-100% Excellent
B-84-91% Good
C-75-83% Passing
C-<75% Failing
Note: For the MT State CNA Exam: 75% is required to pass the written exam and 80% is required to pass skills exam.
GUIDELINES FOR SUCCESS for this class and the State Exam:
Completing on-line learning activities per class schedule for all chapters, including:
-Reading all chapters
-Reviewing objectives and content outlines-being able to demonstrate knowledge and skills according to these
-Slide presentations review
-Communication with instructors as needed regarding progress and participation in Chapter Topics as directed.
-Chapter Reviews (feedback results for student regarding their knowledge acquisition prior to taking Chapter Tests)
-Chapter Tests REQUIRED (feedback for the instructor and proof of attendance and participation). Aim for 90-100% scores.
-Researching and asking questions to assure absolute understanding
-Completing pre-,mid-, post-, practice exams and any extra practice questions/exams, incl. $5 online Headmaster Practice
Exams.
-Attending, being on-time and appropriately dressed for “on-site” activities
-Following all on-site facility rules
-Laboratory Skills Demonstration-knowing the general and specific expectations for all procedures and PRACTICE,
PRACTICE, PRACTICE so expectations will be met in the clinical experience and the state exam
-Clinical Grading Criteria-knowing performance expectations and performing accordingly
DO NO HARM! RESIDENT SAFETY FIRST! Never do anything you are not sure of in the clinical setting.
Always ask questions and report questionable situations!
