At ISM, one way we get close to the learning is by using a

walkthrough protocol, whereby small teams of teachers and
leaders,williden fysomeclearlydefinedoutcomeswewouldwant
toseeourstudentsachievinginaseriesoflessons.Putsimply,asa
resultofsomeinstruc onfromtheteacher,whatwouldwewantthe
studentstoknow,doandunderstand,inthispar cularcontext?For
example,inMathema csandGeometry,itmaybestudentsnaming,
drawing and measuring shapes and then talking about how they
prove the dierence between a 2 dimensional and a 3 dimensional
shape. Data will be collected and then presented to the class
teachers involved and a data analysis protocol ensues, whereby the
teaching team make meaning by iden fying underlying trends,
instruc onal prac ces and possible reasons for what it is
showing.Theinevitableques onisthen,whatnextinplanningfor
studentlearning?
One of our purposes in this process is for us to model a reflec ve
mindset,suchthatwearealwaysadjus ngourprac cebasedupon
the learning that is happening in our classrooms and other learning
spaces.
Thisweekourparentcommunityhasalsohadanopportunitytoget
close to the learning by joining our Art, Music and PE classes in
Grades2,3and4.Again,ourpurposehasbeenforyoutogetmore
of a sense of what learning looks like and feels like at ISM, and
hopefullyhavesomefunintheprocess.Thankyoutoallthosewho
wereabletojoinusthisweek.

This was a phrase we recently heard spoken by interna onal

educa onal consultant Mar n Skelton. He was specifically referring
to the need for teachers and leaders in schools to perhaps realign
some of their focus and energies, away from the inputs or always
justlookingattheac onsoftheteachersandlookevenmoreclosely
attheactuallearning,orwhatstudentsaresaying(orknow),doing
(their skills), and understanding (their changing thoughts on certain
concepts).

From the School Clinic

Dear Grade 2, 3 and 4 Parents,
From Monday 23rd November until Thursday 26th November, we will again conduct our annual vision screening.
Teachers send the students in groups of five to the Clinic, in order to ensure the
testing causes minimal disruptions to learning.
In addition to the usual testing of long distance eyesight, we have introduced
additional testing for short distance this year.
If a student is found to have a degraded level of vision, you will receive an email
from the Clinic, recommending to see an ophthalmologist. If you do not receive
a mail then your childs vision is normal.
