Giving Update
The ministry of SHC is funded entirely by the
generous giving of Gods people. You will
notice that we do not pass the offering plate;
however, there are offering boxes in the back
of the auditorium. We believe from the Word
of God that the Spirit of God will lead people
towards giving back to God of their first fruits.
...God loves a cheerful giver, (2 Cor. 9:7).

Please prayerfully consider what the Lord

would have you do.

Our Purpose
Love God.
Love Others.
Reach The World.
We proclaim Him, admonishing every
man and teaching everyman with all
wisdom, so that we may present every
man complete in Christ. For this
purpose also I labor, striving according
to His power, which mightily works
within me. Colossians 1:28-29

How to Diagnose Perverted Faith
Luke 9:37-45

Presented by
Pastor Justin Greene
November 22, 2015
In his book, Instruments in the Redeemers Hands, Paul Tripp states:
As sinners, we have a natural bent to turn away from the Creator to
serve the creation. We turn away from hope in a Person to hope in
systems, ideas, people, or possessions. Real Hope stares us in the face,
but we do not see him. Instead, we dig into the mound of human ideas to
extract a tiny shard of insight. We tell ourselves that we have finally found
the key, the thing that will make a difference. We act on the insight and
embrace the delusion of lasting personal change. But before long,
disappointment returns. The change was temporary and cosmetic, failing
to penetrate the heart of the problem. So, we go back to the mound
again, determined this time to dig in the right place. Eureka! We find
another shard of insight, seemingly more profound than before. We take
it home, study it, and put it into practice. But we always end up in the
same place.
The good news confronts us with the reality that heart-changing help will
never be found in the mound. It will only be found in the Man, Christ
Jesus. We must not offer people a system of redemption, a set of insights

and principles. We offer people a Redeemer. In his power, we find the

hope and help we need to defeat the most powerful enemies. Hope rests
in the grace of the Redeemer, the only real means of lasting change.1
In Luke 9 we see this natural bent towards failure on display. Christ labels this
turning away from hope faithless perversion (!), and gives his men an advance
course in diagnosing it. His cure? The Gospel.

REVIEW

HE SAID WHAT?!
Faithless = To refuse to put ones trust in something or
someone.

Perverse = To twist; dislocate; confuse.

Inner defects

lead to a confusion of action (Kittle).

ADVANCED DIAGNOSTICS
A PERVERTED FAITH LEAVES YOU POWERLESS.
A perverted faith lives for the mountaintop
experience but has no strength in the valley.

A perverted faith trusts a system or recent

successes more than the Savior.

A PERVERTED FAITH RESERVES ITS PRAISE ONLY FOR THE

ABSENCE OF PAIN.

 Creatures = Large in size

A PERVERTED FAITH CLOUDS WHAT WE CAN PERCEIVE.

A perverted faith struggles with the centrality of
the Gospel.
