INTRODUCTION
His name is Walter Elias Disney or very well known as Walt Disney. He was one of the
famous American entrepreneur, cartoonist, animator, voice actor and a film producer. He was
born in December 5th on 1901 in Chicago, Illinois, US and he died on December 15th 1966 due to
the lung cancer. He and his brother Roy O. Disney is the co-founder for the The Walt Disney
Company which is very famous in an entertainment field during 20th century in America.
Disney had very early interests in art; he would often sell drawings to neighbors to make
extra money. He pursued his art career, by studying art and photography by going to McKinley
High School in Chicago. As the time pass, he became loves to what he had done before and he
decided to carry on, on what he had started. He also got some courage from his mother and his
brother Roy to involved in this field. He also had a wife which always support him named lilian.
Walt Disney is one of the name which has very big dream and he made his dream come
true. It is not an easy thing to make a dream come true. But only with discipline and hard work,
the dream would come true. Disney always says that he would never be in the place where he is
standing right now without the courage and support from his family especially from his mother
and brother, Roy. Family is like his backbone in his carrier from the beginning till now which
always gives support and good advice to him.
He started with his passions in drawing some of cartons characters and sometimes he
earns money by selling his drawing to neighborhood. He is a hard-working man. His brother,
Roy helps him a lot to bring up Walt Disney name so that whole world knows what Walt Disney
is come up for. And yes, they did it. When talk about Walt Disney, one thing that came up in their
mind is the cartoon character, Mickey Mouse.
Disney starts this venture with his brother, Roy. Disney handled the creative aspects of
partnership, while Roy focused on the business and financial end. The Disney brothers borrowed
a little money, set up a studio in their uncle's garage, and made some noise with a series of blackand-white cartoons featuring a rabbit named Oswald, which he produced for Universal Studios.
When Walt asked Universal for a raise, however, they balked. Since the studio retained the rights
to the character, Disney quit drawing Oswald after 1928, although the series continued.
Not only in animation field, Disney had expand his business by build-up a theme park
which function is to being back all the cartoon characters in the real world. Now like we can see
there are several Disneyland around the world which belongs to Walt Disney.
There are many positive sides from Walt Disney that we can take as a lesson in order for
us to be like him. He is one of the successful icons in an entrepreneur field which starts its career
from knowing nothing but only based on interest and patient on drawing cartoons characters and
animations. This shows when there is a will there is a way. In short, these are some of the lessons
that we can get from him.
1. Do What You Love.
The first thing that we can learn from Disney as an entrepreneur is his love for drawing. He loves
to draw so much that he draws in his spare time and he even draws while working as an artist. He
devoted most of his life to his art that he was even willing to work other jobs just to fund his
passion. Just imagine how fun it would be for him to wake up every day to go to his studio and
do what he loves to do. That scenario is a lot more enticing compared to waking up every day
and going to a job that drains the life out of you.
Disney went through a series of odd jobs and even became an ambulance driver in the army
during World War I along with his friend Ray Kroc (the man who made McDonalds what it is
today) and throughout this journey, Disney found his love for drawing. So after he discovered
that drawing can be part of his career, then he stated to create few of cartoon characters such as
Laugh-o-grams (made collaboration with Harman), Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Betty Boop,
Donald Duck, Goofy, Alice Wonderland and many more. From here everything was started and it
remains until today.
Disney actually do not believe in shortcuts in order to success because they take too long. But if
there ever was a shortcut, its asking for advice from people who are further down the path to
you. Find others who do what you want to do, and seek support from them. Let their past
mistakes and failures guide you towards your dream. If the thought of reaching out scares you,
remember that they are a lot like you. At some stage, theyve also asked for help on what to do
next. Dont be afraid. Be nice and show them respect. It works. When youre curious, you find
lots of interesting things to do.
CONCLUSIONS
To become a successful person like Walt Disney, several thing that we need to alert.
Everyone has their own dreams, sometimes it may sound ridiculous but according to Walt
Disney, nothing is impossible as long as we keep working hard on it. Do not just sits quietly and
hopping that the dreams would come by itself. That thing would not going to happen.
Next, we need to ignore what peoples say and just keep on focusing on our dream.
Sometimes if we keep thinking about what others says, that would make we lost our focus on
achieving our goal. So keep your mind on the track, forget about others.
Finally, to become successful person we need to have a balance life which is having time
with family and business must be equally. Usually businessmen tend not to have time to spend
with their family because they are too busy handling their business. But that thing never happens
to Walt Disney. He will find some time to be spends with his family.
