The Beauts hosted Military Appreciation Day on November 22nd at the HarborCenter.
The Niagara Falls Airbase color guard was on the ice during the national anthems and
SGM Jason Jaskula dropped the puck. The Beauts were in search of their first win of the
season after being stunned by the Connecticut Whale in the final seconds of last weeks
game. The Whale were looking to stay perfect on the season. The Beauts would start off
the game strong but would soon get into early period penalty trouble. On an extended
period of 5 on 3 hockey, the Whale would take a 2-0 lead on goals by Sam Faber and Kelli
Stack. Megan Bozek received a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for highsticking
and she did not return to the game. The Whale had taken a 4-0 lead before Buffalo
scored their first goal of the game on a shot by Kelley Steadman. The period ended with
the Whale having an early lead of 5-1. In the 2nd period, the Whale took 3 penalties and
the Beauts scored 5 goals, including 3 on the powerplay to tie the game at 6. The goals
were scored by Steadman, Kunichika (2), Duggan, and Williams. The third period was
mostly quiet, especially compared to the first two periods. The game was first in league
history to head to overtime. After a very exciting overtime in which the Beauts had a
powerplay that created numerous scoring chances, the game was still tied at 6. The game
went to a shootout, also the first in league history. The Whale would win in a shootout.
