Program Notes Storm Warning! - Robert Sheldon is well known composer and music
teacher who received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from
the University of Miami and a Masters of Fine Arts in Instrumental
Conducting from the University of Florida. This piece is one of his
programmatic works, designed to evoke the intensity of the Great
Lakes during storms.
Heroes on Parade - Greg Hillis is a music educator, composer, and
French hornist from Northeast Ohio. He has been composing since he
was in high school. Hillis wrote this march to pay tribute to the brave
members of our armed forces.
One OClock Rock - Ed Huckeby, a freelance composer and arts consultant, has gained popularity in his band repertoire. He received a
Bachelors degree in music education from East Central University in
Oklahoma, as well as a masters degree at the University of Oklahoma.
This piece is a fun arrangement of Grandfathers Clock, in the style
of 50s rock.
Call of Courage - Carmine Pastore is a music educator in Belpourt,
NY where he directs band at the Franklin P. Long Intermediate School.
This is one of his only works, but it full of mixed meters and interesting rhythms which have challenged the band a lot!
Shenandoah - This arrangement by Robert Sheldon is particularly
beautiful, as it incorporates counterpoint that supports the well-known
melody. Sheldon is a well known composer who has a talent for taking traditional melodies and presenting them in new, equally beautiful
arrangements.
