Greetings!
The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) University Caravan is aimed at
encouraging youth to join YSEALI and learn about the benefits of membership. The caravan
will also feature focused group discussions from pro-active and dynamic student leaders on the
four pillars of YSEALI: economic development, education, civic engagement, and environment.
The caravan will be held at Rodriguez Hall, Community Tower, Ateneo de Davao University,
Roxas St. This caravan is a joint effort of the United States Grantees (USG) Alumni Davao,
SAMAHAN (Ateneos student council), American Library, Ateneo International Studies
Students Organization, and AFS IPP Davao Chapter funded by the US Department of State.
More than a hundred of students from different schools in Davao region are expected to attend.
The event will also provide an educational venue for young leaders to exhibit their civic
engagement activities and encourage other students to join in their campaigns. This event will
foster friendship and collaboration among youth organizations, the local government, and
academe. Lastly, the project will emphasize the U.S. Governments commitment to the Southeast
Asian Region specifically on social responsibility and youth empowerment.
You are now officially one of the delegates to the YSEALI University Caravan. We are
encouraging you to bring a shoebox big enough to fit school supplies. School supplies will be
provided by us and will be placed inside the shoebox (but you may also bring school supplies if
you want to add to the donations). It will be donated to the students of an afterschool care
program in Mati, Davao Oriental called Happy Fish Kids & Happy Farm Kids. The beneficiaries
are children of fishermen and farmers. The shoebox will be designed on the day of the caravan.
The remaining shoeboxes will be donated to the students of Pamulaan. Please see the primer on
Love in a Shoebox for more info.
