WE EXIST TO BRING GLORY TO GOD BY

MAKING DISCIPLES THROUGH GOSPELCENTERED WORSHIP, GOSPEL-CENTERED

COMMUNITY, GOSPEL-CENTERED SERVICE
& GOSPEL-CENTERED MULTIPLICATION.
Here at The Village, we get to play a part in
Gods grand narrative for the entire world. This
story has a Hero, but its not us. Our story tells
the greater story of the gospel of Jesus Christ
how He reconciled and redeemed us by taking
our place on the cross. In everything we do,
God gets the glory.

NIGHT OF WORSHIP
In January, our entire church came together for one night to worship
and praise the Lord. Throughout the year, our individual campuses
met for corporate worship, as well. These evenings are just one more
way for us to live out gospel-centered worship and celebrate what the
Lord has done and is doing in our lives and in our church.

THIS YEAR WE WALKED

THROUGH FIVE SERMON
SERIES AS A CHURCH.

In January, we kicked off

the year with a month
of prayer, where we
pleaded with the Lord to
move in three specific
areas: the sanctity of
life, racial reconciliation
and the nations.

In the spring we walked

through the book of
Acts. We studied the

lives to multiplyin
our relationships, jobs,
communities and through
the planting of churches.

Based on themes and Scriptures

at the need to recover a right
understanding and application of
the gospel.

This summer we spent

six weeks learning
about generosity and
spiritual gifts and how
we should steward
these gifts for the glory
of God and the good of

RENEWAL

Committing yourself to a body of believers is

weighty. But its also wonderful. When members
join, they commit to a spiritual family that
provides encouragement and support. They
are called to a biblical degree of responsibility,
service and sacrifice to their brothers and
sisters. Our elders and leaders also pledge to
assist Covenant Members with care, counsel,
prayer and teaching.

From October 1 November 7, we walked

through Covenant Membership Renewal,
a process that allows members to update
their personal information, give their
feedback and make needs known, review
our Membership Covenant and renew their
Covenant Membership.

OUT OF JOY, THE CHURCH MULTIPLIES

Looking back on our history, from
Acts to present day, we see the Church
multiplying. As bearers of the good news,
God calls each of us into this story and
mission. Sometimes it is hard. Sometimes
we must leave friends and family behind.
Sometimes we have to give up our

play

Six years ago, Matt Chandler initiated a

conversation with Beau Hughes about
transitioning The Villages Denton campus
into an autonomous church. Months later,
Josh Patterson, not knowing about Matts
conversation, also brought the idea to Beau
and encouraged him to consider it.

comfort. But whether we go, whether

we stay, whether we pray or offer
support, we are all part of this joyful
call. We are the next chapter. Out of joy,
the Church multiplies.

been beautiful, Beau said. Our body has

pressed into God and one another more
deeply during this season.

There was so much going on at our campus,

and Kimberly and I became parents to three
children within three years. The idea of a
transition wasnt immediately compelling
for me, said Beau.
As more voices were added to the
conversation, the Lord seemed to be stirring
momentum around the idea. After years
of discussions, meetings and prayers, the
elders of The Village, including Beau, felt
confident in moving that direction. Much
like my initial calling into ministry, I
eventually came to affirm what they had
sensed and seen all along, said Beau.
In January 2014, the vision for transitioning
the Denton campus into an autonomous
church was shared with the entire church
body. By May, the Covenant Members
in Denton had voted 96% in favor of the
transition.
The way that the church, in unity and
faith, has embraced the transition has

Every weekend, hundreds upon hundreds

of souls come through the doors of The
Villages Plano campus. Men, women
and children of all ages greet each other,
find seats in the Worship Center, sing
songs together and hear the Word of
God proclaimed. Its a multigenerational,
multicultural group of believers, excited and
eager to see God move in their community.
But long before the campus existed, the Lord
was putting things in place and assembling
His church there.

In becoming an autonomous church,

the Denton campus will have more
flexibility to contextualize ministry to
their neighbors and the needs of their city.
Obviously, this starts with the preaching,
but I believe it will be felt in more and more
aspects of our churchs ministry moving
forward, said Beau. Additionally, Dentons
members have the opportunity to take
on more leadership and ownership in the
responsibilities of the church.

God has bound our hearts together and

compelled our church, including our elders
and deacons, to embrace a deeper level
of responsibility and commitment to one
another and the mission, said Beau. Its
truly been incredible.

THE WAY THAT THE CHURCH, IN UNITY

AND FAITH, HAS EMBRACED THE
TRANSITION HAS BEEN BEAUTIFUL.
There are a myriad of opportunities for us
to continue to mature and grow together as
an autonomous church, said Beau. This
includes everything from serving to giving
to evangelism to doing justice in our city.
From day one, the Denton campus has
desired to be a city of Gods people within

immense hurt and struggle.

Plano is home to a massive drug culture
and also a growing influence from other
world religions. There is a mosque, a
Jewish synagogue and a Catholic church

But after three years of aggressively praying
and seeking a building in Plano, The Village
received an answer in 2014. They signed a

We tell stories to speak the truth about the way things are
and proclaim the gospel. God is reconciling all things back to
Himself, and stories help tell this greater story. They testify
to who God is and what He has done and is doing in Christ,
reaching past mere intellect to stir and shape our affections.
