mavta.
Treatment

3. Hot Lepa (poultice) prepared from the seed of Ma (black phaseolus) 250 g., leaves of Rsn 125 g. and
Gandhaprasra 125 g., root of Eraa (castor) 125 g. and Atibal 125 g. is to be applied on the affected part.
4. Take flour of Godhma (wheat) and powdered seed of Eraa (castor) in equal parts, mix in sufficient quantity of
goat milk or old ghee and boil to make a Lepa (poultice). It is to be applied while hot on the affected joint.

Rakta li (a red variety of rice), seeds of Kodrava (a type of cereal), ymka (a type of cereal), Yava (barley) and
Kulattha (dolichos bean); warm water; rdraka (ginger), bulb of Rasona (garlic), leaf and fruit of Paola (a variety of
small cucumber), root of Punarnav (pigweed), leaves of igru (horse-radish) and Vstka (a variety of
chenopodium, white goose-foot) and fruit of Kravellaka (bitter gourd) are the useful articles of diet for the patient
of mavta.
Apathya
Guru, Abhiyandi Anna; seed of Ma (black phaseolus bean); milk, curd, Gua (jaggery); incompatible and
unrelished foods, fish, excessive eating, nonpotable water; sitting up at night; suppression of calls of nature and
exposure to eastern winds are harmful for the patient of mavta.

Vitiated Vyu affecting the joints causes pain swelling and impairment of the function of the joints
and this is known as Sandhigata-Vta. In this condition big joints like knee are particularly affected.
Treatment
Single Drugs
1. Eraa Taila (castor oil) 12 to 24 ml. to be taken with warm water for Virecana (purgative) once a
day.
2. Guggulu 1 to 3 g. to be taken thrice a day with warm water.
Simple Preparations
1. Take leaf of Sambhl - 2 g., leaf of Bilva (bael)- 2 g., root of Pnipar (china flower)- 2 g. Juice of
rdraka (ginger)- 5 to 10 ml. and make Kalka. It is to be taken with 1 g. Saindhava (rock-salt) thrice a
day.
2. Decoction of equal part of bulb of Rasona (garlic)- 6 g., root of Eraa (castor) 6 g., leaf of
Nirgu-4 g., uh (dried ginger)-5 g., fruit of atapup (fennel)-3 g. to be taken in 14 to 28 ml.
