To prove:
prove PQ = PR.
Construction: Join OP, OQ and OR.
Proof: Now in right triangles OQP and ORP,
a) OQP and ORP (90 each by Theorem
1)
b) OQ = OR (Radii of the same circle)
c) OP = OP (Common)
Therefore, OQP ORP (RHS)
PQ = PR (CPCT)
OPQ = OPR. Therefore, OP is the angle
bisector of QPR, i.e., the centre lies on the
bisector of the angle between the two tangents.
4. Prove that the tangents drawn at the ends
of a diameter of a circle are parallel.
a = BC = x + 8
b = AC = 6 + 8 = 14cm
c = AB = x + 6
a+b+c
Semi perimeter =

BC + AC + AB

x + 8 + 14 + x + 6

= x + 14
Area of ABC = s(s a)(s b)(s c)
On substituting we get,
(x + 14)(6)(8)(x)
(x + 14)(48x).(1)
Area of ABC = area AOB + area BOC + area AOC

area AOC = b.h = x 4 x 14 = 28

On substituting we get
area ABC = area AOC + area BOC + area
