[In anguish everyone prays to Him, in joy does none

To One who prays in happiness, how sorrow can come]

Kaal kare so aaj kar, aaj kare so ab,

Pal mein pralay hoyegi, bahuri karega kab?

Translation: - The work you want to do tomorrow do that today, and the work you want to do today do that
just now. The destruction will occur in one second then when will you do?
Jaat na poocho saadhu ki, pooch leejiye gyaan
Mol karo talwar ki padi rehen jo mayaan.

Translation: - Do not ask about the caste of a saint ask about his knowledge no value of a sward that remains
in case.
Jeevat samajhe jeevat bujhay, jeevat hi karo aas,
Jeevat karam ki phaans na kaati, moye mukti ki aas.
Meaning: - We must not differentiate any person by his cast but instead.

Maangan marann samaan hai, mat koi maango bheekh

Maangan se maranna bhala yeh sataguru ki seekh.

Translation: - Beggaring is like to be dying nobody begs beggaring to be dying is better then beggaring this is
the taught of teacher.

Kabeera mann nirmal bhaya jaise ganga neer

Peechhe peechhe hari phiray kahat Kabeer Kabeer.

Translation: - Soul of poet Kabeer becomes as much holly as water of river Ganga, the God also wandering
back to the poet asking Kabeer Kabeer.
Meaning: - According to Kabeer if your soul becomes holly then the God also follows you.

Mayaa mari na mann mara, mar-mar gaye shareer,

Aasha trishna na mari, keh gaye das Kabeer.

Translation: - The poet Kabeer Das ji said that neither wealth died nor the soul even the body died but greed
doesnt die.
Meaning: - Everyone should leave greediness.
Kabeera sohi peer hai, jo jhane par peer
jho par peer na janahi so kaphir be peer.
Translation: - The poet Kabeer is saying one who knows about others trouble is only (Peer ) the saint. Who
doesnt know about others trouble is a person without master.
Meaning: - Everyone should be polite and humble for others troubles.

Vruksh kabahoo nahi phalva khahi,Nadi na peeve neer

Parmaarth ke karane sadhu dhara shareer.

Translation: - Tree never eats fruit and river never drinks water. For others purpose a saint opt a body.
Meaning: - The great people always have tendency to give something to others never want to have for
themselves.

Dhurlabh maanush janam hai, dena baarambaar

taruwar jo patta jhadai, bahuri na laagai daar.

Translation: - Human life is rare give again and again a leaf that a tree dropped never attached to tree again.
Meaning: - Human life is rare so do not waste it.

Kshamma badan ko chahiye chhotan ko utapaat

Ka Raheem hari ko ghatyo jo Bhrigu rishi maari laat.

Translation: - Forgiveness befits the person who are great, scoundrels are always naughty and destructive.
Whats the loss secured by the God Vishnu after receiving a blow from Maharishi Bhrugu.
Meaning: - Great people always forgive all faults of a scoundrel.
Jyon nainan me putali, tyon maalik ghat ke maahin
Moorakh log na jaanahin, baahar dhundhan jahin

Translation:-Like the pupil in our eyes the Lord resides inside us

Ignorant do not know this truth they search Him outside in the world.

Meaning: - The God resides inside every person one need not wonder outside in search of him.

Chiitaa sajaayaa lakdee kaa,
Holi jaise phunk diya phir,

Kahat kabeer suno bhai saadhu,
Khel banaa sab lakdee kaa
Translation: - Four people jointly uplifted you prepared a seat of wood. Upside wood and downside wood
prepared the cremation seat from wood. Put in fire like Holi (a festival of Hindus) the piece of wood thrown.
The poet Kabeer is saying listen the saint this all is game of wood.
Meaning: - This is a couplet showing importance of the wood in last procession of a human.

Mukhiya mukhu so chahiye, khan paan ko ek

Paale poose sakal ang, Tulsi sahit vivek.

Translation: - The leader must be like mouth that is one for eating and drinking. Have care for all organs, Tulsi
(the poet) with wisdom.
Meaning: - The leader must be like mouth that doesnt make any difference among all followers.

Kabeera jab hum paida hue, Jag hanse hum roye

Aisi karani kar chalo, Hum hansen jag roye.

Translation: - The poet Kabeer is saying that when we born we were crying and whole world was laughing. Do
something like this, that we laugh and the world weep.
Meaning: - Do something good and great in your life that people weep missing you when you die.
Bada hua to kya hua jaise perd khajoor,
Panthi ko chhaya nahi, phal laage ati door.

Translation: - What benefits being enlarge like the palm tree, no shadow for the passenger and fruits are also
far away.

Meaning: - Greatness of a person should not concern with his height.

Karat karat abhyaas ke jardamati hot sujaan

Rasari aavat jaat te sill par pardat nisaan.
Translation: - Doing rehearsal again and again even an idiot becomes intelligent. When a rope comes and
goes again and again there become a remark even over a stone.
Meaning: - This couplet is just like an English proverb PRACTICE MAKES A MAN PERFECT.

Nahaaye dhoye kya bhala jo mann ka mail na jaay

Meen sada jal mein rahe par tan ki baans na jay.
Translation: - What happens if you have taken bath if there is dirt in your soul. A fish always live in water but
the sting of the body doesnt removes doesnt go away.
Meaning: -This is a very strong remark on the orthodox people in general. Who think they are better than
other just because they have taken bath few times everyday and go to the temple or mosque or church to
pray and follow rituals for the sake of following. Kabir Das compares these people with the fish (meen) who is
always submerged in water. So she should be very clean by default. Yet, as we know, fish are one of the
stingiest creatures. So the gist of this doha is that we should follow rules and regulations but not just for the
sake of following. We should ultimately come to the point where they lead us, namely, love of God.
