Day Three Cue Sheet

Lekunberri – Pamplona (36.4 km)

Although the day begins with a bit of uphill riding, the ascent is relatively gentle and the payoff is the great downhill
that you get as you ride down from Madotz into Irurtzun (be careful on those hairpin turns!). The highway from
Irurtzun into Pamplona can be busy, but has wide shoulders, and until the Vía Verde’s completed all the way down
into Pamplona, is the easiest way of getting into the city.

LEKUNBERRI - PAMPLONA (36.2 km)

START POINT: Parking lot of the old Lekunberri train station (43º00’3.17”
N / 1º53’22.15”W)

WHERE TO GET FOOD AND WATER:

There are a number of supermarkets located on c/ Aralar in Lekunberri.

HOW TO GET THERE:

The La Roncalesa bus company runs four buses per day between
Pamplona and Lekunberri. The trip lasts 40 minutes and costs €2.85.

KEEP IN MIND:
We’ll be riding on highways, albeit ones with relatively little traffic, thanks to
the new motorway. That said, it’s worth wearing bright clothing, to see and
be seen!

WHAT TO SEE:
Most of Pamplona’s sights lie within the city centre; the best way to see
everything is to get your walking shoes on and check out the Cathedral, the
bullring and the old town.

WHERE TO SLEEP
Outside of the week of the San Fermín festivals, it’s not difficult to find
accommodation. Finding affordable accommodation that doesn’t require
you to haul your bike up a number of flights of stairs is quite another matter.
There’s no campsite near the city and the youth hostel seems to be
consistently full. If you’d like to get a taste of the Camino de Santiago
culture, get a credential and a bed at the new Pilgrim’s Hostel in c/Jesús y
María, near the Cathedral.
