Brochure Matra-South training course

Water Management
The Netherlands invites civil servants from Egypt,
Jordan, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia with 5 to 10 years
of relevant working experience on dossiers related to
water management issues to apply for a training
course on Water Management. The course will
provide participants with the relevant knowledge and
skills to formulate and implement effective water
management policies. The course will also offer the
opportunity for participants to engage practioners
and stakeholders in water management from the
Netherlands
such
as
water
management
organisations, governmental agencies and various
Dutch companies. This will allow participants to
establish or expand their networks in the Netherlands,
as well as strengthen their ties with both the country
itself and the Dutch government.
Water Management
The Clingendael Academy and UNESCO-IHE organise
this two-week course to ensure that participants
reach the following course objectives:

Develop and reinforce knowledge and

understanding of water management;
Expand on key skills that empower
participants to better formulate and
implement water management policy;
Stimulate
cooperation
between
the
Netherlands and the Arab region, as well as
regional cooperation.

Two-week programme
The course consists of two separate weeks. The first
week will take place in The Hague. During this week,
the focus will be on developing and enhancing the
participants theoretical and contextual knowledge
regarding water management. By attending
interactive lectures with practioners, partaking in
various study visits to water projects, and engaging in
speed dating sessions with Dutch companies the
participants will gain a solid theoretical foundation
regarding water management and the relationship
between government and business.
In the second week, the course will move to a country
in the Arab region and focus on developing the skills
required to effectively engage stakeholders.
Participants will also improve their communication
and organisational skills. This will allow each
participant to not only bring about change in his/her
organisation, but in the broader water sector of
his/her own country. Preparation of a back home

action plan is also part of the course design to ensure

the newly cultivated knowledge and skills will have a
lasting impact on the participants organisations.
