Chicago has been in a struggling standpoint
for peace in it's war against violence and
crime. A prime example is the nine-yearold boy shot and killed in the city this week
after being lured into an alleyway. Tyshawn
Lee was murdered in a gang related act due
to his father Pierre Stokes affiliation with a
rival gang. Police are still looking for a
number of people who may be involved in
the murder of Tyshawn Lee. Chicago
police superintendent McCarthy asks
anyone with information to step forward
for a $35,000 reward. Like after many
tragedies people across the nation are in an
uproar. Kean university student Michael
Lepore gave his thoughts on the incident.

SOT (Michael Lepore): Well this

story literally makes me sick
to my stomach. A child does
not deserve to be hurt or
harmed in any way, or in
any way shape or form
murdered. Such a heinous
way it literally is almost hard
to read. I would definitely
say that Chicago is one of
the most dangerous cities in
our country. And I wouldnt
even wish my worst enemy
to live there; and I would
certainly not raise my family
and children there. I send
my condolences to the
family and my heart goes

out to them. I pray for those

to be safe when you go to
Chicago to visit because
things like this happen.

blame finger pointed at the city of
Chicago itself, not all students
believe that to be so, Harry
Dunham of Rutgers University
explains how.

SOT (Harry Durnham): Well

first of all and foremost I
would like to say this a
grave, grave tragedy. A
child being murdered is a
horrible-horrible thing;
bloody horrid. I would not
wish that upon my worst
enemy. However, I would
not blame Chicago as the
main reason for this type of
action to have happened.
We must blame the gangs
and the gang violence.
Once we tackle that issue
then we can tackle different
events like this from
happening. Chicago was
once a beautiful place and
we can get it to be there
again. We must get the
police more involved to
tackle down the gang
violence so events like this
do not occur again. But I do
not blame Chicago, Chicago,
it is not its fault.

VO: Many people have opposing

opinions in this gruesome story in
one of Americas most talked
about cities. As the police enforce
their law at a heightened rate to
deduce crime police across the

nation follow those procedures to

make the streets safer for all of
our citizens.
