LORD OF WAR
Released in 16th September 2005, directed by Andrew Niccol. The main purpose of this
movie is to tell about the arm dealers, who were are in the business of the dark world of the
global weapons smuggling during the period of the cold war. It was a good story line up
based on the true story. Its an interesting concept for a movie, a person as an illegal arms
dealer.
It follows the story of Yuri Orlov (Nicolas Cage), a poor Ukrainian immigrant, who one day
decides to sell guns for a living. Yuri Orlov (Nicolas Cage), making his way up through the
arm dealer industry, and become successful enough to supply weapons to the world's armies.
Yuri and his brother called Vitaly (Jared Leto) are partners in crime in the movie. He has the
clients come from all over. There is a moment in the film when Yuri gets some bad news as
Peace talks have started in a particularly promising market. He made his focus to the Bosnian
arena. When they say they're having a war. He also finds two good customers in Africa. The
Liberian dictator Baptiste Senior and his son Baptiste Junior. Senior is capable of shooting
people dead. At the end of the 80's, he refuse to work with Vitaly who became a cocaine
addict. Yuri becomes a millionaire and step towards his new life. Yuri was married to the
famous model of that time Ava and had a son called Nikola. Yuri met his uncle General Orlov
who allows Yuri to get to the Soviet army's weapons and Yuri will trade back to African
dictators who become, in the 90's, his fortunate clients. But, soon, things go in a bad way
General Orlov dies in the explosion of his car, killed by Simeon Weisz, Yuri's participant, and
Jack Valentine, an Interpol police officer, decides to do everything so that he can arrest Yuri.
Jack valentine visits Ava, and discloses the real nature of her husband's activities to her. Yuri
who loves his family above all, provides up arms dealing then but 6 months later, he is
communicated by Andr Baptiste, an old customer and also ruler of Liberia, who desperately
needs weapons. Yuri, attended by his brother Vitaly flies to Africa but the contract goes
wrong. Vitaly is killed and in New York City, Yuri is arrested by Jack Valentine and in the end
he understand that Yuri is a necessary wicked for the concern of his nation.
Nicolas cage (Yuri Orlov) has played a vital role in this movie who wants to better his living
conditions. Nicholas cage was as good in this movie as any other with his attitude that makes
his character so strong. It gave a great detail about what he did in a long way but short
feeling. Although Cage's doing is illegal, he performs the part so well that you can understand

his situation and sympathize for him. Another most important character was his brother
vitally who is always with Yuri. Yuri was addicted to cocaine but still care about his brother.
And the detective jack valentine, very loyal to his nation and wants to eliminate illegal
business by catching the illegal arm dealer.
Theme of the movie is that the arm dealers are spread all over the world and how illegally
they are influencing in the society by introducing and giving weapons to others, and creating
a mean of war and making others life in threat. The greatest thing I have learned about Lord
of war. It doesn't take too serious. It is very political and deep inside pretty moralistic, but it
always has a more or less cynical point of view. And that is to my mind the only way to do a
film about a theme like arms trade.
The movie was surprisingly very good. One of the best movie I have seen in a long time. The
script, the cast, cinematography was excellent. The message was clear that arm dealing is an
illegal profession and it can cause yours and others life.
