Employment Interview Details 2016

OBJECTIVES
This learning opportunity facilitates the students to:
1. Design employment interview questions and utilize them in a virtual (or face-to-face)
interview
2. Apply all course concepts in a simulated employment interview as the interviewer and
interviewee
LEARNING OPPORTUNITY DETAILS
This learning opportunity has been created to give students a chance to participate both as an
interviewer and interviewee in an employment related interview.
1. Each interviewee will find a detailed job description of a position he/she would like to
apply and believes matches his/her qualifications. Additional material concerning the
organization offering the position will be prepared and made available (think of this like
a fact-sheet that will help the interviewer construct sound questions. It CANNOT be a
link to the organizations website. It must be developed by you!) Copies of this material
will also be submitted to the instructor.
2. Each interviewee will prepare a cover letter and a resume for the specific position.
These will be provided to the interviewer and submitted to the instructor.
3. Each interviewer will assume the appropriate role for the interview.
4. Each interviewer, having received the documents of application, will prepare a
moderately scheduled interview that will last approximately 10 minutes do not go
over. This interview schedule will be submitted to the instructor. In addition, each
interviewer will submit to the instructor a rationale of the interview process in which
the specific question strategy is justified and where some of the particular questions are
explained (for example: I asked this question because I wanted to see if the applicant
was willing to take a position anywhere in the United States). A reflection essay, which
will be completed after the interview, will discuss how the individual felt in each role
(interviewee/interviewer).
Strive for realism in this assignment by dressing and behaving in the manner suitable to the
roles you are playing. Your adherence to this will be reflected in your final grade.

This learning opportunity will be graded based on how thoroughly you followed the above
stated directions, how you performed in each role (this will be assessed in your demonstration
of course concepts), your turned-in deliverables, and your reflection essay.
The instructor will, to the best of her ability, give individual feedback. However, keep in mind
this learning opportunity is being turned in at the end of the semester. Due to time constraints
of having to submit final grades, detailed feedback may not be possible.
