To
Mr. Gautam Adani
Chairman
Adani Group
India

Dear Mr. Adani

We are pleased to submit a proposal on behalf of Sampoorna Vikas Pvt. Ltd., an organization
specializing in enabling visually-impaired students to read by providing different types of aids.
Currently, there are more than 20 million blind people in India, out of which 27% are students.
Other than textbooks for blind students, there are virtually no books for general reading in tier-2
and tier-3 cities of our country.

We are working hard to convert reading materials, such as school and college text books, guides,
science and management books, fiction books, travelogues, and self-help books, in to readable
format for the students. Nowadays, DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) standards
books are published for the blind students which can be accessed through Computers, DAISY
players, CD players as a structured audio book, allowing students to easily navigate through
chapters, pages, paragraphs, and major topics.

We require financial aid to fund the aforementioned initiatives. By associating our organization
with a leading business conglomerate, such as Adani, we wish to widen our limited scope to
empower and enable more and more visually-impaired students of India. The enclosed business
proposal comprises of our business plan, proposed budget and timelines.

Request you to go through the same in order to get a clear outline of the details of our proposed
plan and method of implementation.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Warm Regards,
Sunil Kumar Singh
Chief Communications Officer
Sampoorna Vikas Pvt. Ltd.

Executive Summary

At present, India has over 20 million visually-impaired people. Students account for 27% of this
population. Earlier, these people used to rely heavily, on braille kits to read and learn. Now with
the advent of DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System), these students are able to read
and learn faster as compared with Braille Kits. As a consequence, the quest for knowledge is
growing rapidly especially amongst the teenagers.

Majority of the students residing in tier-2 and tier-3 cities of the country have restricted access to
DAISY enabled platforms for reading. The Braille kits limit the learning to prescribed text books
only. Our goal is to provide such students ample opportunities to learn and ask for more and
more books.

Leveraging our expertise in the field, we focus on converting as many texts as we can into braille
and DAISY enabled platforms to offer reading options to the visually-impaired students.
Currently we have restricted our operations to NCR and a few other cities of Haryana and Uttar
Pradesh. We wish to extend our operations to be able to cater to a wider audience. Our mission is
to provide variety of reading options to each and every blind student of India.

Problem Background
The existing infrastructure for the education of the blind students is inadequate. There are only
56 learning centers for Blind in the country to serve more than 20 million blind people. Students
alone account for 27% of this number. These learning centers are ill-equipped and under-staffed.
As a consequence, a very small proportion of the students enroll themselves in such centers.
Tier-1 Cities
Visually-impaired students living in tier-1 cities are enrolled in both private and government
schools. They have access to braille-kits and DAISY systems to read the prescribed textbooks
and some other famous works by renowned authors. However, during examinations and other
competitions, they find themselves dependent on other people (fellow students and teachers) to
even pass the examinations.

Tier-2 Cities
Blind students in these cities have access to age-old braille kits to learn the contents of the
prescribed course books. DAISY model has not yet been functioning properly in these cities.
Students are often, left with no choice but to limit their knowledge and learning to textbooks
only.
In both the scenarios, even if DAISY enabled books are available, they are priced way over the
affordable range of majority of the visually-impaired students. A DAISY enabled book of 200400 pages costs between Rs.1100 to Rs.1500. Such high prices limit the variety of books a
student can avail.
In addition to the above mentioned limitations, a major hurdle is that there is no established retail
channel for the sale of such books. Many students find it very difficult to avail these books as
there are only a few specialized retail counters in a city. Some cities have only 1 such retail
counters.

Proposed Solution & Benefits

We are team of self-motivated individuals, who specialize in developing reading aids for visually
impaired people. We wish to increase our production capacity multifold to cater the increasing
demand for DAISY products.
Increasing Production
We aim to collaborate with other producers of DAISY enabled books to leverage their skills. We
are also looking to recruit young talent in our organization and provide them with extensive
training to foster our production scale.
Also, we wish to source books from other countries. Currently, China, the US, and Germany
specialize in the production of these books. We have established contacts with many players in
these countries who are willing to sell their products at prices lower than the market rates. In
addition to this, we also have sanctions from the ministry of commerce which will enable us to
source these goods by paying very low duties and minimal taxes.
Establishing Retail Channels.
We aim to set up many retail outlets in various cities to increase the availability of these books.
Apart from selling through retail outlets, we will train a team of business development managers
who will help us partner with institutions, such as schools, colleges and other related
organizations. We believe that these partnerships will lead to widespread use of DAISY enabled
books and will benefit a greater strata of the blind population.

We are already in talks with many schools and colleges and they have welcomed this initiative
with open arms. They are more than willing to part with the amount of money that we have
intimated to them.
All of the above steps will be implemented in NCR and a select few cities of Haryana and Uttar
Pradesh. Once, we develop a robust model for production and supply we will start with Punjab
and Rajasthan. We wish to grow strength by strength so as to maintain the quality of our services
