STAGE AUDITIONS!

All audition information can be found at: www.fmmusical.com

Also read the letter on the back of this sheet. Bring this sheet, signed on the back, with a picture of yourself
attached, to your singing audition. You may choose to attach a resume only if you want to.
SINGING AUDITIONS*: MONDAY 11/16 AND TUESDAY 11/17, 2:15-7:30, CHOIR ROOM
You can sign up for an audition time online. You will sign up for a particular time-slot; plan on arriving 20
minutes ahead of time, and be aware that we may not be able to stick perfectly to the schedule.
Prepare one (1) minute of a song to sing. Memorize your song so you can be expressive in singing it. We will
provide an accompanist, but bring a copy of the music for the accompanist to play. Everyone MUST perform
with the accompanist or a recording.
Your song can be from Titanic if you like, but ideally should be keeping in spirit with the musical youre
auditioning for.
You will be auditioning privately for Mr. Hebert (director), Mr. Mendez (producer and pit director), Mr. Engel
(assistant director), and Ms. Bizup (tech director). We are nice and friendly, so dont be afraid! Other students
will not be able to see or hear your singing audition.
DANCE AUDITIONS: MONDAY 11/23, AUDITORIUM
You will be taught a section of choreography from the musical. You will be taught first in larger groups, have an
opportunity to practice, and then will be called up to the stage in groups of 4 to perform it. All students must
attend the Dance Auditions.
CALL-BACKS: MONDAY 11/23 (after Dance auditions)
If you are called back, you will be asked to perform various roles in various scenes from the show, and possibly
sing some music from the show. Not being called back does not mean you wont be cast; likewise, being called
back doesnt guarantee you a part.
Scan the QR Code below with your Smartphone for more information about the show.

*No monologue required.

**Please read the letter on the back of this sheet**

Dear Students and Parents,

We are thrilled that you are interested in auditioning for Titanic. It is such a
privilege for us to see and hear your talent. In fact, we are always
overwhelmed by how much talent exists here at FMHS; it is truly remarkable.
Because of this, it is, of course, impossible to fulfill everyones desires and dreams. We can all empathize with
your passion and hope to be cast in your ideal role, for each of us has experienced both the dream and, at times,
the utter disappointment that inevitably come with the audition process. Certainly, if you are not cast in your
desired role, you may be devastated. You may feel sorrow, anger, or possibly resentment. Such feelings are
natural and understandable, and you may need to feel them at first.
However, our expectation is that you are auditioning because you want to be committed to the musical as a
whole, and that you will demonstrate that commitment with enthusiasm no matter how you are cast. Every role,
every part from the lead, to the cellist in the pit, to the rigger backstage, to the alto in the ensemble is
quintessential to the success of the show. We create brilliance on FMHSs stage each year, and this year will be no
exception if you are truly dedicated regardless of how you are cast.
The casting process is based on the audition. It is unfair for either you or us to have any preconceived notions
about who will or should get which parts. We are a very experienced production team and will base our
decisions on the auditions, and as has always been the case, we will cast a person according to who is right for
each role. We will use our expertise and knowledge of the show to identify the factors that will determine this.
When the cast list is publicized, feel what you need to feel. But be careful, respectful, and mature in how you
choose to express those feelings, and make peace with the fact that every person is important in creating the
magic on stage. Being committed to the show regardless of your role means that you will be supportive of
your peers, even (or especially) if they got the role you wanted. It means that you will bring 110% to every
rehearsal. It means you will commit to the time required for us to craft a beautiful show. It means that you will
love what we create on stage, and you will respect yourself, each other, and us for being part of it. It means that
you will be positive and enthusiastic. It means you are part of a team.
Parents, you can be such a help in this. We hope that you will be part of this team as well, in supporting the cast
and production team of what will be a spectacular show, regardless of how your child is cast. No doubt, some
parents will feel the disappointments that may come as deeply as their children, and yet we want to emphasize to
you, too, how important every student is to our endeavor, and how much they will value your positive support
for the show and the cast.
We are incredibly excited to embark on this journey, and we wish everyone the very best at auditions!
Sincerely,

F-M High School Titanic Production Team
