GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS OF CONTROL VALVES

& ACCESSORIES

1.0

CONTROL VALVE SIZING

Sizing of the Control valve should be carried out such as to prevent flashing, cavitation & in
conformity with the noise requirements mentioned in clause 7.0, based on the data &
operating conditions attached. Results of the sizing calculations shall be forwarded with the
quotation.
No quotation will be evaluated without the results of the sizing calculation. Generally valve
shall have twice the Cv required for the normal design flow at specified condition. The
Normal Flow Cv does not include any factors relating to the geometry of the valve on its
installation. The valve size and approximate valve Cv should include allowances for such
factors.

2.0

VALVE CONSTRUCTION

2.1

The Control Valve body should be manufactured of castings or forgings to the ASTM
A216 Grade WCB material specification. The quality of and repair of body casting
must

follow the requirements of the referenced ASTM material specification. Wall

thickness shall meet or exceed minimum requirements of applicable codes.

2.2

The valves shall have suitable guiding to prevent excessive shaft deflection due to
maximum differential pressure or actuator thrust.

2.3

Bonnets and bottom flanges shall be of integral type or bolted type construction with
fully retained gasketting.

2.4

Bonnet and bottom flanges shall be of the same generic material as the body, and made
of castings, forgings or plate where applicable.

3.0

DIRECTION OF FLOW

The vendor shall determine the direction of flow, which is more desired for the operating
conditions & which will comply the noise requirements given in clause 7.0.
The direction of flow should be clearly marked on the valve body, embossed during casting
or using Stainless Steel Tag displaying the Inlet & outlet on the flange faces.

4.0

VALVE MARKING

The Control Valve should have Stainless Steel nameplate permanently fastened to the
superstructure which shall be visible when the valve is in service. This name plate shall
include the following information.

5.0

4.1.

Manufacturers' name or trademark/Valve Tag number

4.2.

Valve Model and serial number.

4.3.

Maximum valve body pressure rating.

4.4

Valve body material and nominal pipe size.

4.5

Trim material, size, characteristics and travel.

4.6

Valve action and operating signal characteristics.

CONTROL VALVE PAINTING (COLOUR)

Refer to the specification sheets attached.

6.0

CONTROL VALVE POSITION INDICATOR

A Travel Indicator with OPEN, CLOSED & INTERMEDIATE POSITIONS clearly marked
on a Stainless Steel Tag plate to be attached to indicate the valve position.

7.0

NOISE REQUIREMENTS

The noise generated by the Control Valve measured at a distance of 1 meter shall be less than
90 dB.

CONTROL VALVE POSITIONER

8.1

Control valve positioners shall be of Electro-pneumatic type with the feed-back link.

8.2

The Valve Positioner shall be either Yoke mounted motion balance or integral force
balance type and they shall not be affected mechanically or functionally by any
vibration encountered when so mounted.

8.3

The Valve Positioners shall be easily converted from direct to reverse acting.

8.4

The Valve Positioner shall be an Intrinsically Safe apparatus suitable for installation in
Class I, Groups D, Division 1 area as defined in the National Electric Code of practice
(NEC). The equipment & materials of construction shall be listed, certified & approved
by FM, UL, BASEEFA, CSA or any other internationally recognized, independent
testing authority.

8.5

The valve positioner should be dynamically balanced and have a linearity of 1% of full
scale.

If necessary temperature compensated coils shall be provided to maintain the

linearity.

8.6

Input impedance characteristics shall be suitable for operation with Micro-processor

based, Single Loop Indicating Controller.

8.7

Input to the Electro Pneumatic

4 - 20 mA DC, 2-wire

valve positioner

current signal

The Valve Positioner shall have 1/4" NPT (F) pneumatic connections and 1/2" NPT (F)
OR 20 mm (F) electrical connection.

8.8

The Valve Positioner shall be equipped with an Air filter/ Regulator & a set of gauges
for supply and output signals.
