Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus
were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him

through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised
from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new
life. (Rom 6)
Lutheran Understanding Continued
Adults:
Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three
41
Children:
"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for
the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. (Mark 10)
Many households were baptized (Acts 11,15,18)
Crispus, ... and his entire household believed in the Lord ... and
were baptized. (Acts 18)
Lutheran Understanding of Why Children
are Baptized
Children have unconscious faith (need the removal of original sin):
5
"And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes
me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to
6
sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around
his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. (Matt 18)
Scripture does not say "and to seeds," meaning many people, but "and
to your seed," meaning one person, who is Christ. (Gal 3)

Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, ... The promise is for you

name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your
39
children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God
will call." (Acts 2)
Baptist View
Belief and baptism go hand in hand, but only belief will save you.
Modes of Baptism - Immersion
Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there

why?
“You were buried with him in baptism in which you were also raised
with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from
the dead” (Col. 2:12).

Know ye not that as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ
were baptized into His death?
4
Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death, that just as
Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so
we also should walk in newness of life. (Rom 3)
I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to
me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on
Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ (John 1)
For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling
the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more
14
shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered
Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead
works to serve the living God? (Heb 9)

And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his
hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared
[b]
to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive
your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately there fell
18
from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once;
and he arose and was baptized. (Acts 9)

feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the
people, and prayed to God always... While Peter was still speaking

these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.45
not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? ” 48
wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot
tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is
born of the Spirit.” (John 3)
Westminister Confession Cont.
Grace is not only offered, but given by the Holy Spirit, according to
the counsel of God's own will, in His time. Only done once.
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be

shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2)
